There has been some discussion about the S&C Program this off-season and certain players either gaining or losing weight. Just reading some of these threads, looking at the depth chart, and hearing a few things around campus, I don't think that weight should be a problem for this team for 2015, or beyond for that matter.

I know that Gary had a recent thread about Grace struggling to gain weight, but even for him I think he is a good enough athlete to play in the secondary, if needed, or still play linebacker at 212-215 lbs... As I've stated before, in my opinion every athlete is different- they are not robots which can either add or subtract weight on command. Some players struggle to lose weight because of their DNA or other extrinsic factors, and some players struggle to gain weight for a variety of reasons.

When I look at the roster, I don't really see anything abnormal about the team regarding players' weight. Our defensive tackles are all at about 299-315 lbs. ALL of our offensive linemen are over 300 lbs, there's a nice of mix of weights throughout the secondary, and the offensive players look fine. Conditioning looks good and I don't think that this aspect of the team will be an issue in 2015. I think that these off-season camps have helped everyone, and it is good to see players actually being proactive and taking an initiative to get well-conditioned and hit the weight room. Frankly, the S&C Program looks solid and this is one area where, despite all of the other criticism, we can actually give Golden some credit. I do think he's done a better job with the S&C Program, and he and Swasey appear to be on the same page, so even when Golden is eventually fired, I still think that the S&C Program will be in good shape and the players will be well conditioned for not only this year but in the future under new leadership.
