I will admit that I wanted Manny to succeed because his success meant the Hurricanes succeed.
I will admit that he proved he was NOT prepared for the job in year 1 and into today. That is maybe what happens when you invest in a first time coach at a big program.
To me the first 6 games of year 3 were the litmus test. The team looked unprepared and uninspired, You can’t continue to shit the bed in every big game you play.
I also have gone on record to say that Blake James is a big part of the problem and the secret press conferences distancing himself from Manny are the final nail. He needs to be fired because no one worth a shit wants to work for a back stabber. He is now toxic to this program and every other sport that matters regardless of how much money he brings in. This needs to happen now. Get a new AD in house and let him be the one to pass judgement on Manny, that is fair.
With Manny, I was also sold that he was DONE 2 weeks ago. Although I think he has been willing to acknowledge and fix mistakes (trying to fix the offense with Lashlee & King, trying to fix the defense and recruiting with T-ROB & Simpson, and the recruiting strategy- big fish hunting vs settling for plan B/C guys (which hasn’t necessarily worked)) you can’t be the same in year 3 and show no progress, plus, I’m not sure he will be able to ever get over the hump…
But unlike the last 4 regimes. The kids have NOT quit on this staff and now 2 weeks in a row (really 4 weeks) they have fought to the end. We are starting to see the team we thought we would see at the beginning of the year.
IS IT ENOUGH TO GET MANNY ANOTHER YEAR?
-if he wins out, plus the bowl, he will get another year… Not saying that is right answer, just making a very logical prediction. 7 straight wins will buy him another year and it probably should.
- I think one more no show first half, one more slip up and it is probably over and maybe that is the right answer.
Then the question becomes can he fix what is really broken?

- The defense specifically the LBs and the CBs plus tackling. The LBs are terrible and there is really no solution on this team to improve that (or in the class). CBs are not much better(especially if Stevenson leaves), although if the guys in the class stick plus 1-2 more the long term prospects improve
- The recruiting which really feeds the whole team. They can’t go 0 for SFLA, they can’t go 0 for every prospect they wanted that wasn’t a DB. I’m not sure there is anything they can do to mend the relationships with the top players in SFLA( WHICH REALLY MIGHT BE THE ONLY ANSWER YOU NEED TO CUT THE CORD IF WE ARE BEING TOTALLY HONEST)
- And finally game prep/slow starts/unprepared/ whatever you want to call it… the team started well the last 2 weeks, (that is an indicator that they MAY be turning the corner) but that doesn’t erase 8-9-10 games of looking like shit in the 1st half of games.
