The main two things I notice from these HCs is that they all have an identity for their programs. The successful guys have taken their plan/identity from their previous stop and have implemented successful at their current.
U notice that golden never had a identity , offensive or defensive, for his squads at temple or at Miami. Regardless of what a school has as far as resources the coach has to be able to imprint their identity/culture on the football team and the successful coaches are doing that. For example the resources at auburn didn't suddenly change once chizik was fired and Gus was hired. Even back when urban took over for zook, the resources and facilities didn't just change at Florida.
Second thing I notice is that coaches are proactive in making changes reguardless of past success or perceived success. Kevin sumlin was proactive in getting a new DC. He also hired a new offensive line coach even though his past oline coach produced 3 first round tackles lol! He did this to improve on the run game and get tougher. South Carolina HC Steve spurrier just hired a new DC ( co DC) even though his current DC ( co DC) has been considered a good DC in the SEC. This past year South Carolina dealt with injuries and graduations/ lost of impact players ( clowney) and still he sought to get better on defense by getting a new DC/co-dc. Les miles had a really good DL coach in brick Haley who produced some really good NFL defensive linemen. He let him go and hired Ed Oregeron. These coaches don't make lazy convient hires. They are proactive in going to their AD/admin and say " hey how serious are you about having a successful football program... This is what I need" when Gary had Blake on the telecast and Blake stated that if Al came to him and said we need this , this and that. Blake said he would ask golden why. What Blake didn't say is " and Al has come to me before and we have had those conservations... This is why this happened or u see this". We never heard Blake say that and like I stated earlier , which Gary has even stated, Al made lazy convient hires. He never met with fisch before hiring him, fisch sought him out and the OC position. Coley was the result of Mario.
We definitely need those things for Miami to be successful again
