Winning the Coastal in my opinion was the goal but should no longer be. What we need to focus on is getting better at every possible facet of the game. And it starts with learning how to WIN. For the past decade being a canes fan I can't remember going into an ACC game with the mindset of without a doubt we were going to win, it was always a " hopefully" we win the game attitude. This needs to change, this year is no different. Last week we were up and you could feel it that the canes were going to give up the game. This week the canes come out flat and even though they fought back for the chance to have the ball and potentially tie the game, we once again didn't, and once again you could feel that the canes were going to fall short, AGAIN. Richts job will be to teach these guys how to win. The mentality needs to change from I hope we win to were going to go out here and beat their ass. Learn how to win.
With that said clearly things need to change. My focus is no longer on acc title, my focus is on if this team can improve every week. Improve on pass and running blocking, improve on route running, improve on CATCHING THE DAMN BALL. We can point the finger at Brad or the offensive line or the recievers not catching the ball, at the end of the day we need to get better. One snap at a time.
Third down conversions, good lord we are horrible on 3rd down and it hasn't been just this season it's been this way for years. If we can convert on these 3rd downs, the game's outcome will be different for us. The 3 and outs kill any momentum the defense may have or continue
the bleeding. We have to get better at converting on 3rd downs.
Defensively we have to continue to improve. Too many open recievers down field. Too much space for recievers to run. I thought we were going to play bump and run this year? What were doing is attacking our front 7 but we're giving too much room to the recievers to run their routes. They beat us once down field these past two weeks and have killed us with the quick passes. Have to get better at coverage and force them to beat us with tight coverage.
Special teams coach should be fired tonight. But that's probably not happening. How in the world does lewis mess up on that play? How do we continue to miss FGs we should be making?? How do we almost get bit in the ass with an onside kick?? Special teams needs to get better. Think about this, if Badgley makes his first kick, instead of going for FG in the fourth qtr we play for the tie and if we don't score we atleast pin them down on their own goal line. The game could've swung a different direction if he makes that kick. Have to get better.
