In 2018, the Miami Hurricanes had one of, if not, THE worst season of punting in our history. Miami has usually had, year after year, very good punters. Right now, we have two of the best in the NFL in Pat O’Donnell and Matt Bosher. And a few years ago, Justin Vogel had the best year of any rookie punter in Green Bay Packers history.

A few years ago, Canes fans were excited when we recruited Zach Feagles, son of former Miami great, and all-time NFL leading punter, Jeff Feagles. Unfortunately, the apple fell very far from the tree.

But now we have Louis Headley, who is, arguably, having one of the best, if not THE best, season in history of Miami punting. Headley is averaging almost 46 yards a kick, which is second in recent history only to O'Donnell. And amazingly, Headly is netting 43 yards per kick. That is almost 5 yards farther than Feagles grossed, let alone netted. In addition, on 41 Punts through 10 games, Headley has only had 2 touchbacks. He has had 12 punts of over 50 yards, has dropped 15 punts inside the 20 yard line, and has had 9 fair caught.

What a difference a year makes. What was one of our biggest weaknesses last year is, this year, one of our greatest strengths
