Florida State head strength and conditioning coach Vic Viloria was arrested early Saturday morning for DUI.

According to the Tallahassee Democrat, a Tallahassee PD officer found Viloria asleep at the wheel with his truck stopped on an off ramp at 5:06 a.m. Per the police report, the officer tried to wake the coach up “by knocking on the window multiple times,” but he was unsuccessful. Viloria, whose car was in drive with his foot on the brake pedal, awoke a few minutes later and did not see the officer standing next to his truck. At that point, Viloria drove away.

As Viloria drove, his vehicle “left the roadway and traveled up an embankment, missing a telephone pole by what appeared to be only inches.” Viloria’s truck then “traveled off of the embankment and continued southbound” until an officer was able to pull him over.

Police said Viloria “exhibited multiple signs of impairment” and admitted to having several alcoholic beverages “at work.” The coach, police said, acknowledged that “he knew he shouldn’t have been driving.” Per the Democrat, Viloria told police he had several “big” alcoholic drinks in his office on the FSU campus.

Viloria was subsequently charged with DUI and property damage. Per the Democrat, Viloria, 37, declined to submit to field sobriety tests and registered blood-alcohol levels of .124 and .125 on two breath tests.

In a statement, Florida State Athletics said it is “aware of the reported incident and in the process of gathering more information.”

“The issue falls under the human resources policies for university employees, which restricts further comment at this time,” the statement said.

Viloria is in his sixth year with the Florida State program. He joined the FSU staff in 2010 after spending three seasons at SMU, his alma mater. He also worked at LSU for three years.

The Seminoles open the 2016 season Monday Sept. 5 against Ole Miss in Orlando.
