First off, I hope no one flames this thread or takes it as an AG apology thread. That is not the case, so if you are gonna start with the AG sucks comment don't bother posting.......I'm already in agreement that the guy has continually let us down on game day. It's June, so I'm just looking at a topic that came up again yesterday due to Gadbois departure. Now to the question or research:
2011
AG started up in December, essentially had 2 months to put together a class.....one that had 5 commits when he took over. So one would think with a small window to evaluate, build relationships, etc the staff would only be able to do so much and gambles/reaches were going to be high.
8 of 18 2011 commits have left the program
2012
AG gets full year to recruit, but he spends the whole year with Nevingate blowing up, calls for disbanding the program, etc. So what would normally be his honeymoon class that most coaches enjoy early on when they come to a good program....he was largely robbed of that.
16 of 31 commits have left the program
2013
AG still dealing with Nevingate stuff, but the outlook is better, no longer talk of shutting down program, etc while sanctions are still coming at this point the severity is reduced and the staff is far less hamstrung. So much fewer excuses for the recruiting to not improve.
2 of 18 commits have left the program (1 Lockley who I don't think even counts)
2014
AG has nothing to hold him back outside of his own gameday failures.....which now have the Canes sucking for about a decade. So he has no excuses.
1 of 27 commits have left the program
So Gary, I guess my 2 questions are.....
1.Do you think we have had so many departures from 2011 & 2012 because the staff was put in a bad situation or do you think they have gotten better at evaluating?
2. Do you think the 2013 & 2014 classes, from what you have seen so far, have less guys that are destined to be busts and leave the program?
Side note, I am not oblivious to the fact that the 2014 class has only been here a year and there still could be a few more busts/defections.
Thanks in advance Gary, and hopefully to the rest of you keeping this discussion civil and dbag free.
