Up 40 cents a gallon (regular unleaded) since the beginning of January. That is a regressive and cruel tax on the poor, unemployed and middle class. In not even a full month Biden has killed ten of thousands of good jobs and his policies are taking money out of the pockets of millions of American's. This is how he wants to help the economy recover from the economic affects government imposed COVID lockdowns? Bidenomics is not off to a good start.

17.

What is it with your obsession with gas prices? Have you considered buying an all electric vehicle?

Cortez,

Why does reporting of facts regarding the immediate economic affect of Biden's unprecented flurry of executive orders appear to offend you? It is Biden's economy and country. Kind of like Manny Diaz; his record should decide whether he keeps his job. But to not report Bidenomic facts would be like Gary not allowing discussion of the UM defense at the UNC game.

Also, sorry about the duplicate post. Don't know how it happened, but I have asked the moderator to take down the second one.

They started rising back in September 2020..OPEC apparently got tired of the glut of oil and the low barrel pricing and has now reduced oil output....Even Trump recognized the oil industry was in trouble with the low prices....so expect the prices to steadily increase especially when demand starts to increase..

Local stations show 40 cents this month. $2.09 to $2.49. Facts of Bidenomics. Let's see what happens in February.

17,

My objection
Local stations show 40 cents this month. $2.09 to $2.49. Facts of Bidenomics. Let's see what happens in February.

My objection centers on your use of the word “facts” and your easy assumption of immediate causality of Biden’s EOs and policies. Due to a colosal reduction of worldwide demand for oil due to the pandemic, gas prices have naturally come down. As things open up, demand should increase and gas prices go up. This has nothing to do with Biden and absolutely nothing to do with shutting down the Canadian pipeline.

You also allege that the pipeline shutdown was a political payoff by Biden and a callous disregard of those who will lose pipeline-related jobs. These are political allegations by you, not facts.

Finally, your concern for the pipeline jobs rings hollow to me in comparison to all the Covid related jobs that were lost permanently by those who died. Millions more were put out of work as the economy declined. I live in an area heavily dependent on tourism. 2020 year end data released yesterday shows that hotel revenue in my county declined 58% last year. Housekeepers, gardeners, managers, wait staff, bartenders, etc etc were furloughed, laid off or had their shifts radically reduced.

Its fine that after Joe’s 14 days in office “Bidenomics” is now your slogan and target. But, your arguments don’t read as either factual or sincere. They sound partisan and conclusory.

Cortez,

The fact part of the statement is that gasoline within my eyesite have risen at least 40 cents in a month. When the WaWa on the corner that sold the gas for $2.09 on January 1 sells the same gallon for $2.49 it is a fact that the price of that gas increased 40 cents in a month.A 2020 think tank article is meaningless to the person that has to choose between food and gasoline because the cost of both has risen in the past 30 days.

I 100% agree with your words:
Covid related jobs that were lost permanently by those who died. Millions more were put out of work as the economy declined. I have consistently posted sympathy and support for industries you referenced. But I would be remisss in not pointing out that those job losses have been far worse in states like California, New York, Michigan, Illinois New Jersey and Penssylvania that are ruled by Democrat Governors that imposed draconian lock downs and restrictions that were not supported by science. Comparatively Florida has recovered far more of these jobs due Republican Governor Ron DeSantis lifting restrictions in a safe and measured way.

Re your sentence:
Finally, your concern for the pipeline jobs rings hollow to me in comparison to all the Covid related jobs that were lost permanently by those who died.

Why do you say that some job losses are horrible, but others are OK? Are pipeline workers less valued people? Do their families not matter? Why do you appear to have such disdain for them and their livelyhood?

lmao@trying to pin this on Biden who has barely been in office two weeks. This is some funny ass shit. I am going to sit back and prepare my popcorn watching Trump supporters rationalize Trump attacking our country vs pinning our economy on Biden after being in office all of two weeks.

Not sure of your point 6882. Hope you and your business are doing well in Florida.

My POV:

I don’t have disdain for pipeline workers who may lose their jobs due to the pipeline cancellation. I come from a blue collar family and am sensitive to economic insecurity,

I have 3 adult children: two have worked remotely during the pandemic (finance and entertainment). Financially good. Yet, very stressful with kids at home while you work.

The third lost his job in the food industry 10 months ago.. Just got rehired at minimum wage. We are very grateful for his reemployment.

My issue issue is 17’s focus on energy employee victims of US policies vs ongoing victims of the Covid related economic effects. Feels very imbalanced to me. Nothing more.

I welcome 17’s criticism of Biden. Fair game.

I just can’t stomach that existing employee victims of the Covid mishandling are less worthy than the future victims of this economic environment.

Honestly, I wasn’t really trying to make a point other than that i just agreed with 17’s thing and because I respect you wanted to see what you had to say. Good convo was my point I guess if there had to be something out of my last post. What the lounge is all about. Just good stuff is all, I guess.

sometimes it feels good to speak up and sometimes it just feels right to sit back and listen.

Cortez,

I think we've covered this one for the moment. I do look forward to our next spirited debate.

I do want to compliment you to the board and especially those to the right. Even though we may disagree on a lot of policy, you promote your positions professionally and with detail. You are able to do so without personal attacks or profanity. Both sides could learn a lot from that. I do think that this board is more interesting with civil debate than a third grade food fight mentality that too many posters appear to prefer.

In these kind of debates, it is interesting to listen and learn. I did learn an area where you and I appear to absolutely agree. How the pandemic has unduly harmed certain industries like food, beverage and lodging (among others). I do wish more attention was paid towards their plight. Your most recent post brought up an important fact, that while many may be returning to work, they still lost much and are only making a fraction of what their previous income. Yet their mortgage, rent, car note, etc. have remained the same and are probably in areers.

Calling out my Red team I am disgusted to see old, paid off, out of touch Republicans like McConnell and Toomey, under the fake banner of fiscal conservatism say that $2,000 is too much for those hurt. They use a rising enployment rate to imply that those people do not need help. If someone is working but at half the income due to government actions, they deserve assistance. They don't want to give those people money because their banking and credit card donors tell them not to.

But don't get too excited and think that you've converted me. Shumer and Pelosi are worse by acting virtuous when they drop bread crumbs but give away trillions of hard earned tax dollars of those workers to their big donors, e.g. teachers unions (the money never gets to the students) and Ivy league professors to study useless stuff like why ants bite people.

That's it for now, have a great day, I have to get back to making some money. Have to work harder than ever to overcome Bidenomics. (tongue in cheek with a smile emoji).

It’s very fun to disagree civilly.

12,

LOL. Come out from under your rock:

Have you not noticed that GM has pledged to get out of the gas fed car business? All electric by 2035 is its promise.

Have you not noticed that Ford’s hottest new product is the all electric Mustang, the Mach-E? It’s as fast or faster than a Tesla.

My wife drives an all electric SUV. I drive a gas guzzler SUV...a little embarrassing in this environment. But, I do love it...505 HP.

Are cars and trucks the only products made from oil and gas? Can a wind farm or solar panel create the tires that are needed for those vehicles? Other products from gas and oil are too numerous to mention here, including many of the parts on those electric vehicles.
