The responsibility for policing and defending the Capital was the US Capital Police. The question we should be asking is, why didn't the US Capital Police prepare better? Instead, it was about misinformation pertaining to MPD authority. For me, this lack of planning for Trump's insurrection was deliberate and I'm certain his supporters played a major role.
