What would they be?
I've been asking myself this question and going back and forth. Obviously, some of it depends on who comes back. Like, Zion Nelson SHOULD come back. I think his pass blocking grades have been pretty good. He's an athletic tackle so maybe he'd perform well at the combine and be a 3rd round pick? Maybe late 2nd. Also, I think Tyrique Stevenson came here with the intention of playing well this season and leaving. But he also SHOULD come back.
But I think my three positions would be...
DE - After having Rousseau, Roche, and Phillips the last two seasons, we've seen this season how it really stands out when you don't have at least one good DE who can't get to the QB consistently. Harvey and Chantz are solid but we need to find a stud to go with them. Jabari Ishmael has a high ceiling but I wouldn't expect him to be totally ready yet next season
Corner - This will be by far the #1 priority if Stevenson decides to leave. We've struggled mightily outside of him. We've got nothing from Couch this year, Blades has had so many injuries and issues that we might as well consider him done, Ivey is still not good. Maybe Marcus Clarke continues to improve and can be relied on. Malik Curtis can't be much worse than Couch or Ivey lol. Who knows what happens with Khamauri Rogers & Chris Graves but we really NEED them to sign here. If we lose Rogers or Graves, we may need TWO corners from the portal. This position could potentially be a disaster next season.
MLB - I hate having to go with this choice because it's not a numbers issue, it's a talent issue2nd.We're going have several 2nd or 3rd year guys. It's just that it doesn't appear that any of them are great. A quality MLB would do wonders for this defense.
So I went all defense, no surprise there. If Zion leaves and since we're losing Jarrid Williams, offensive tackle could become a major priority. If he leaves, would we be back to John Campbell & Scaife back at tackle? Justice O maybe, maybe Jalen Rivers gets a look there but would really like to keep him at guard bc he could be elite there. Is McLaughlin ready 🤔
I think we'd be OKAY at WR if we don't bring in anyone. If a stud WR wants to come of course you don't say no. But I think Smith could be a #1 WR. Restrepo, Brinson, George, Brashard Smith is a good group. If Redding can stay healthy that's another good piece. Hopefully we hold on to Ibieta & Horton who I both like a lot, especially Ibieta.
