On this here America Day - I'm feeling a bit swagtastic & just am going to go ahead & say...
WE BEAT FSU THIS SEASON.
Yes, another one of these posts.
Their streak ends this season. I was looking at some highlights from last year, and perhaps even more than the year that we slipped at home which devastated the players - last year I think was the first time I watched the game (despite admittedly not really as pumped as other years) and thinking we really aren't that far off them.
Think about it, we stuck with them.
What held us back? Well...other than the pitiful pre-game speech, talking about hugging your brother as if we were going to get killed out there (just knew it was over right there)...
The freaking defense once again. Cook is undoubtedly great talent, but with this new scheme, whether we've seen it or not - the players, I feel, will be in the backfield a lot more, will be able to play that attacking style they are meant to (& thus be more comfortable), and will be amped to get at them.
Whether it pays off or not, I don't know, but regardless when the front seven are horizontally skating 2-5 yards off & across the line of scrimmage waiting for a player like Cook to come to them...bad things are going to happen. Maybe the scheme alone, regardless of talent, will be enough to cause some disruption, confusion, and annoyance.
What's more? The offense is pretty much all returning & I think, minus Dalvin Cook, we were better than them on offense as a whole.
I believe CMR will take this game personally, I believe he truly knows how important this game is (to both sides), and I think he's going to make a point of it. If he wins this game, his popularity as a coach around here and the nation will skyrocket (even if FSU ends up having a down year); If he loses, well...it really doesn't change much other than we know & have known we aren't quite there, plus its his first year. So, for that reason, I think this team and more noticeably the defense will play with reckless abandon, and go all out, and they should, we really have nothing to lose & EVERYTHING to gain.
I don't care if it's by a field goal missed or made (god wouldn't that be fitting), or a blow out...but we got them this year - take it to the bank!!!!!
