"I think what we saw here is an administration that understands the value of having a successful football program because they recognize that the football program is what set the U on the national stage in the early 1980s. And that's what created the marketing for the machine that everyone now calls the U. They took that into their own hands, they fired Blake James and they went out and said we're going to get the resources that are needed. I don't think this is something that the board of trustees would ever accomplish. It's the administration stepping in and making these decisions. They let Blake James go without the board of trustees knowing, they had no clue. Besides everything that has gone on with the resources that are going to be allocated to football and athletics as a whole, and the hiring of Mario with an unprecedented contract as well as the resources for his assistant coaches and everything that goes along with it, I think we're going to see additional reform when it comes to the board of trustees and the value of the board. Not only have we not had success on the field but not on the administration of the academic department through the board of trustees that's been around forever. The people in charge now they know exactly where they're going, and this is the first major step in terms of revamping that whole system."
I cannot express how excited I am about this statement! Myself and some others on this board have been calling out the BOT/Admin for YEARS and the events we've seen unfold over the past 2 weeks, summed up here by Jaoquin Gonzalez, perfectly illustrates that.
In retrospect, I am REALLY happy we didnt hire Mario 3 years ago when Richt stepped down. Or 6 years ago when Golden was fired. If Mario had been hired back then, he probably would have gone the way Golden, Richt and Manny went... simply because THERE WAS NOT A COMMITMENT TO WINNING FROM THE ADMIN/BOT.
Theses moves that were made outside of the BOT, without their input or consent sends a seismic message to the whole corrupt lot of them. "YOU ARE NO LONGER IN CHARGE HERE..." and thats a really good thing!
Mario coming here at this time, at this moment... having the full support and backing needed... will absolutely be able to bring this program back. Coaches will come and go... players will come and go... but the foundation has now been set and established. If Mario, Dan and the Admin stay in alignment it is my belief that we are looking at the return of THE U for the next 10-20 years.
