He has been at Oklahoma St for 15 years and he has consistently won 9 games per season which is pretty impressive in a Power 5 Conference. Plus I remember getting Jimmy from Oklahoma St. back in the day! I just don't think Manny was ready to take the keys to this program possibly down the road but not now. I believe it was a panic and impulse hire.
Several years ago, I ran into Mike Leech at the airport. I had the opportunity to talk to him and he told me that he really really wanted the Miami. I saw it in his eyes and heard it in his voice how disappointed that he did not get the job at Miami. Gary's excuse at that time was that UM administration thought he was too strange so he would never be hired. I am just amazed at how many bad hires that have been made over almost the past 20 years. Once the right hire is made, Miami would come back immediately until then this sleeping giant program will remain dormant.
