Read my post again. The virus originated in China and then went to Europe and the research teams concluded that a vast number of cases in US were originated by travelers from Europe coming to the US. That was according to a quote by the Intercept.

The vast majority of Italy's 300,000 Chinese immigrants live in the northern part of Italy, which also happens to be the epicenter of the coronavirus outbreak.
