I’m curious to to know what everyone opinion on this .
I’m a lifelong hurricanes fan born and raised in Miami but did not go to UM. I always felt that most of UM true hardcore fanbase comes from people like me that never went to the school, especially for football . I’m not saying saying UM students and grads are not as passionate but it seems to me that this one of maybe a handful of schools in college football that feeds off the energy of its hometown, non student fanbase the most. Most other schools fans are built mostly around students and alumni. To me when i think of the “Miami hurricanes “ I don’t think of the school but rather Miami as a city . So it becomes a proxy for our city . Also to me story of the Miami hurricanes is best associated with the City’s own personality rather than that of the school’s overall student body . It actually very weird , given the UM is such an expensive school which most of Miami residents wouldn’t be able to afford . It’s like we have two fanbases in a way …which are waaaaay different from each other across the social economic, political, and cultural spectrum.
