....your University of Miami.
How about that, Caniacs!
So says a story from Business Insider. The rankings were determined by acceptance rates and SAT and ACT scores according to the U.S. Department of Education. Here's how they came up with the rankings: Acceptance rates accounted for 60% while SAT/ACT scores 40%. Business Insider used information from Niche.com, an academic review site.
Overall, the U was No. 86 out of the top 100 schools in the nation and is the only Florida-based institution of higher learning on that list so for all U Miami grads, congratulations! For those of us who are fans only, we get a nice golf clap.
As for our ACC brethren, here's who finished ahead of us:
No. 16 Duke
No. 32 Notre Dame (maybe they rate an *)
No. 57 Virginia
No. 60 Boston College
No. 62 North Carolina
No. 77 Wake Forest
No. 86 Miami
I'm surprised GT was not on the list, but they were beaten out in Georgia by Emory University.
Not surprisingly, the Ivy League cleaned up with Harvard, Yale, Princeton and Columbia taking the top four spots with Dartmouth 9th and Brown 11th.
Now check out these schools that finished ahead of the U:
Harvey Mudd College (CA)
Cooper Union (NY)
Claremont McKenna College (Claremont, CA)
Carleton College (MN)
Haverford College (PA)
Pitzer College (Claremont CA))
Colby College (ME)
Grinnell College (IA)
Macalester College (MN)
Scripps College (Claremont, CA - notice a trend here? What does Claremont have in the water?)
Rhode Island School of Design
Babson College (MA)
Stevens Institute of Technology (NJ)
However, there were some pretty good football schools on the list too:
No. 6 Stanford
No. 10 Vanderbilt (well, maybe not good)
No. 19 Northwestern
No. 22 Rice
No. 31 United State Naval Academy
No. 34 United States Air Force Academy
No. 36 University of Southern California
No. 37 University of California - Berkley
No. 40 United State Military Academy at West Point
No. 51 Tulane University
No. 55 University of California - Los Angeles
No. 64 University of Michigan - Ann Arbor
No. 67 University of Richmond (good FCS program)
No. 97 University of Tulsa
So now U can brag to all your Seminole and Gator friends (as if they care) that the University of Miami is the toughest academic school in all of Florida. Let's hope one day soon the U can say it also has the toughest and best football in the state and beyond. (No need to say AG has to go first etc.)
Go Canes!
