Two years ago this roster was BLEAK. So many guys that did NOT belong at the U.
I believe the future is bright. There are so many talented young guys that will be really really good. I would rattle them off but the list is too long.
Although many are predicting the Team's record, from experience I tend to take things one game at a time so although I always have high expectations, I do not try and predict what games we will win or lose. Too many variables.
However:
IMO(duh, obviously) this is the most talented roster, with more quality players than at any time at least since the beginning of the 2009 and probably goes back to 2004or 2005 season. We have many things in place that would lend me to have a positive outlook on the season and a belief that we are finally moving in the right direction.
We are significantly improved in QB, DL and DBs from a year ago, our skill position players are every bit as good even with the loss of Duke, Dorsett and Walford. Collective talent IMO is more effective in CFB than a few standouts.
Football is such a team game that no one, two or three players make that much of a difference. Duke to a one year older Yearby/Edwards and Gray(Walton too) is NOT a significant loss. One year older Coley-Scott-Waters-Berrios-Lewis more than overcome Dorsett. Njoku-Dobard-Hearndon- more than overcome Walford.
As long as Kaaya is throwing the ball we are in good shape at WR and TE. IMO we relied TOO much on Duke.our RBs are plenty good enough.
I have seen so many examples of teams getting better after losing great players, especially io CFB where 30% of the roster turns over every year.
The only position that concerns me is OL. However the only thing that the OL lacks is experience, not talent, and having two 'light' games at the beginning is enough to get them ready for Nebraska and all of the other teams that follow.
Only Clemson and Florida State should be our equal talent wise so it is not as though even our young OL will be steamrolled by anyone.
I feel confident that with an excellent QB, skill guys and a vastly improved D that we can beat every team we play.
I am excited about this season and can't wait to see Kaaya lead us to his first heroic come from behind-last minute victory.
I will believe this until It is proven otherwise.
Worst case scenario is we don't get it done and we get an improved coaching staff. I am also confident that the talent level will get a huge bump this off-season no matter what happens.
