I seldom have predictions that a particular player can or will become a big name. That said, some of these articles and tidbits about Harris which I have read over the last, say 3-6 months do make me think that he is a player who can become a high quality player on defense. All-American...? I certainly won't go that far for now... All-Conference? Possibly, but too early to tell at this juncture without a proven track record. Someone who is working his way into more playing time on the two deep rotation with a good physical skill set and mentality? Absolutely, and that is a good positive for him building a foundation for success.

Just taking a general glance at Harris as a whole, he was a middle-end three star recruit who was offered by some big name programs in Ohio State, Florida, Florida State, Alabama, Georgia, and Wisconsin, among some other respectable programs throughout the entire country. That doesn't happen to somebody who is incapable of having a quality impact in college football- quite the opposite, actually. Clearly a lot of big name programs and coaches saw in Harris AT THE LEAST the ability for him to be a quality contributor.

Over the last year or so, he has put on about 17-20 lbs of QUALITY WEIGHT, so at 244-248, he's at a comfortable weight. As the Canesport front page article states, Harris earned a lot of playing time last year as a FRESHMAN rushing the passer on third down. Granted, he wasn't effective, but as many of us have stated, it is tough to immediately come in as a raw freshman and have a consistent impact on the DEFENSIVE LINE. It takes more time to GROW into that type of player at THAT POSITION than at other positions, and Harris is doing just that- and by all accounts, Trent hasn't sacrificed speed for putting on that quality weight.

So, we'll see. He'll get his opportunities this year. Someone on this front seven is going to have to step up and add DEPTH and quality playing time to a defensive line that has a LOT TO PROVE, so maybe we are starting to see a little something in Trent Harris leading up to the start of the season.

I'm looking forward to seeing how he progresses.
