Rover Position

Can anyone explain to me why we are playing the rover position against teams tat are predominately going to run the ball and QB sneak?

I know we are short of LBs but it seemed our d was so much better with McCloud in there playing 3 LBs.

Rover works against pass happy teams but seems detrimental against run oriented teams. Why no change?
