Sports mixing with politics has become a widely discussed topic on this board. In a wide ranging interview, former ESPN boss John Skipper now reveals that he abruptly resigned because he was being extorted from someone he had bought cocaine from. But that was not the most eyebrow-raising comment he made as far as I was concerned.

I did not know much about Skipper's background until now, but he was a self-described "counterculture hippie" who worked 10 years for Rolling Stone magazine. At some point, he went to Disney and spent 27 years. With that background, he may have been predisposed to enable an environment where people like Max Kellerman and others could run roughshod with their far left views and drive away viewers who wanted no part of politics mixed with sports. I always wondered why a good soldier like Linda Cohn could be punished and suspended by ESPN for merely stating that some of her fellow hosts talked too much politics. Now I understand why.

This is much to honestly do about nothing. If the political views differ from our own there is predictable ourage. People from all walks of life are sportscasters. It's nothing. If people decide to be politically active on thier own time that's their right.

If a company doesn't think that person represents them they can do what they want.

I never understood why people worry so much about what sportscasters say....or what any other person says is their personal political view. Laura Ingram told Lebon to shut up and dribble. Let people say what they want to say. This is America...not the USSR. Our politics effect us all.

So you're mad because the white conservative host got in more trouble? The networks run by liberals? Watch another network. So what? Ever hear of Foxnews? They do sports LOL...It's a conservative network. Are you outraged about that? Probably not.

I watch games and the 30 for 30 documentaries. Those movies, along with some of the ESPN Shorts, are compelling.

I have not watched Sports Center or any other similar programming since the Canes were trashed by Mark May and others after the FIU brawl. I used to watch Bob Ley's Outside the Lines, until that program also turned into a Politican Agenda show as well.

One of the many difference between conservatives and liberals is that while most conservatives fully understand they are conservative, many liberals think their viewpoints are not left-leaning, but "middle of the road." This is the key to understanding people like Max Kellerman. He thinks every logical thinker shares his view, and he doesn't understand why anyone would disagree with his logical opinion.

That is why I never discuss politics with people I like. If ESPN likes their audience, they should heed those words.

No doubt that ESPN is a liberal dominated program. But the way you phrase your statement is an attack on one of our countries ideologies as democrats and then an attack on politics in sports. Which brings the question are you upset that the politics on ESPN is liberal dominated, would feel more comfortable with a Republican view, or non-bias reporting. lastly i believe ESPN brings political views up to much, but politics has always been a part sports. It has played an important role in enhancing this country from the Olympics in the 1900's to the civil rights to now.

CD- as usual, you bring an agenda to the discussion. I am not "mad" about Linda Cohn. Where did I say that?

And no one this thread has stated they are "worried" about what sportscasters say.

I am reporting facts and offering my opinion without criticizing or questioning the opinions of others. I advise you to do the same.

The difference is people tune in to Fox News to watch balanced or conservative news. People tune in to ESPN for Sports updates and they are getting the addition of political commentary. Sports and politics should be separate.

Sportscenter simply isn't necessary anymore. Back in the day that was our primary source of information. The internet didn't change that but smartphones did. Why do I need to watch an hour of Sportscenter when I can get scores and highlights instantly on my phone without seeing what I don't care about or wait through commercials?

That is not to say that the liberal persona has not rubbed people the wrong way because it clearly has, but I'd say that has served mostly as a last straw instead of the driving force.

I only watch games and 30 for 30s because thats really all I need from ESPN. I miss some of the game shows they had on such as Beg, Borrow, and Deal, Stump the Schwab, and I'd do anything.

I am....I just don't get the point. What exactly is the problem here? "Enabling Liberal Commentators"? What does that mean? Does FOX "enable" Conservatives? Yes. Do I care? NO! It's their right. It's their network. I can watch something else if I want to.

LOL....they do not talk about politics on ESPN man. The complain is what these people do on their own time....on their personal socialmedia feeds. Nobody on sport scenter is talking about politics. Some of you guys act like you turn to sports center and hear some political diatribe. That isn't happening at all.

Read his post again because I didnt find it hard to understand. He is critical of mixing sports and politics......and rarely if ever has Fox sports pushed a conservative agenda on viewers. Oh by the way, ESPN is starting to take a hard line stance against political views because of loss in viewership.

Constantly being angry and expressing that anger on a message board everyday because there are people that dont share your beliefs or opinions is no way to live.....but I guess to each their own.

You have mental problems. I'm sure there is a reddit for you and your kind, please find it and spare this board your political bullshit.

Critical of mixing sports and politics... starts a political thread on a sports board. Got it.

The difference is you tune in to FOX or CNN or whatever TO GET News on Political Commentary and updates. YOU EXPECT THAT.

And the point that is being made is--just as you stated--they "can watch something else" if they don't like it. (referring to ESPN) And that's exactly what they're saying.

"They" want to watch sports or sports related news. Not some elitist pontificating the merits of Socialism, while they avoid paying any tax they can, live in walled communities, jet set around the globe etc.

SO yes Fox enables "conservative" views, but guess what?? They get plenty of Liberals and those of other points of views as well. Does ESPN allow that? No.

So your perspective is a little off here.

To be clear...because I'm not sure you followed me....ESPNs sportscasters are making political statements on social media...NOT ON ESPN. Fox anchors like Laura Ingram of fox has done so too. She told Le bron James to shut up and dribble and falsely claimed he left high school early. He is a sports athlete. What's the difference? Why is she commentating on athletes? Frankly i don't care if she does if her employer is okay with it....that's my point.

GenghisCane- you were making far too much sense for CD.

Another thing that liberals do, besides thinking they are middle of the road, is to complain about the position that others have. In other words, not only do liberals disagree with your position, they have a problem with you for even holding that position.

CD took an intellectual discussion and quickly turned it into a food fight. CD took this discussion to the Lounge, even though others were happy to contribute to it in the War Room

I think Max Kellerman and Stephen A sort of mix sports with social issues rather than politics so much on First Take IMO. That said, ESPN is damn near unwatchable, there is alot of bias even with their coverage of sports teams. Look at the NSD special or college football live and it's pretty obvious.

It belonged in the lounge when your title was "Smoking Gun on ESPN Enabling Liberal Commentators". Talking about liberals isn't really for the war room sir.

LOL.....ESPN is unwatchable because of their horrible product. It has nothing to do with politics. I don't watch it much anymore either. Not because of any politics though. That's the least of their problems. It's a horrible product.

You're kidding right? ESPN is supposed to be about sports. Fox News is supposed to be about news and politics. How can you possibly compare the 2?

Not listening and reading what i am saying. Neither is doing it on the air. These are their social media feeds...they can do what they want.

ESPN definitely does it on the air. Not during games of course. But on the air. Just watch Max Kellerman, among others.

Kellerman, PTI, Around the Horn, Jemele Hill when sometimes appearing on Outside The Lines, ESPN removing an Asian broadcaster from a game because his name was Robert Lee. These are just off the top of my head. So many other examples. If people on here are saying ESPN only gets political on social media then they havent been watching.

But here's the thing Joer, it doesn't matter. Media bias has been "baked into the cake". It won't influence votes.

CD said ESPN hosts are not doing political commentary on the air but on their social media feeds.

Then yesterday, on the air, Max Kellerman ranted that NFL owners not signing Colin Kaepernick was akin to Jim Crow.

CD is wrong about 95% of the time. That's why he's known as CDWrong.

You should have listened more to your 3rd grade English teacher and learn some grammar.

Or...did you make it to 3rd grade?
