I think Gary and CaneSport have been doing some of their finest work recently. The info coming out on the LT show has been fantastic, although maddening at times.
Gary boiled it down nicely. UM needs to go one of two ways:
1. Stop lying to us with the building champions bullshit and just tell us middle of the road ACC is the goal. Or,
2.If they really want to compete nationally, act like it and get serious about building the organization.
If option 2 is the choice, money is a challenge but not insurmountable.
In my experiences, I have noticed 2 distinctly different types of organizations.
A. The first one, assesses their resources (usually limited) and then goes about deploying them.
B. Far more successful organizations take a vastly different approach. They analysis WHERE they want to go, build a plan, calculate the cost, and THEN go find the money but ONLY when you have a vision to sell.
You leverage your success.
However, choosing option B requires a strong leader. Alpha leader. One clearly not identifiable in the current UM Chain of command.
To me, UM has clearly been lying to us for years. The previous President and AD have been hiring the safe choices as HC. Keep the program clean, maybe we’ll have accidental success.
When it came time to hire another AD, UM took the same strategy. Good fund raiser, with NO clue how to build championship athletics. Again, maybe he gets lucky.
Then the BOT doubles down and hires a new President who sees little interest or value in having championship level athletics. He then tells the beta AD, you’re on your own.
The board seems complicit so this is what we have gotten. Reports have indicated there is little interest in firing Blake James.
Without some major piece of this changing, our future will look mostly like our recent past.
Same + Same = Same
The long shot option is with Blake James. No one really KNOWS what he wants. We have only observed what he has done. It’s highly unlikely, but perhaps he really does want to build a champion. If that’s the case, he cuts his losses and looks for an Alpha dog.
It’s a Hail Mary of course. But hey, did we every really expect Malik Rosier to complete one against FSU?
