A college/university sets an institutional culture for a football program at a macro level, and the AD hires a coach to both implement and grow a certain football culture at a micro level with players, assistant coaches, and support staff. We know the football culture at The U right now is a complete cesspool of shit for all the reasons which we have hashed out countless times. The players, assistant coaches, and support staff plainly see, feel, and realize what we, the fans, see feel, and realize - that Manny is a lame duck HC and will be fired, potentially with Lego Boy Blake - it is not a question of if, it is a question of when.
At 2-3, with the season lost and an already ACC loss staring down the barrel of 1-3 more losses, what I REALLY want to see for the sake of the long-term outlook of the Program is some f**king player self-accountability. These guys have mailed it in on the Manny regime, no longer buying into what he is selling. Fine. Happens all the time at all programs in college football. However, as an individual, take some ownership of your own individual collegiate athletic career. Pride of ownership, in anything one does in life, is important, long after college football.
TVD - you've had one start and almost 100 collegiate reps. 14 days to prepare for UNC, and with King's confirmed season ending injury, 5 full days knowing it is your team now. Step up, show what you can do.
Restrepo - you're 2nd on the team in reception yards. Lot of hype, swagger, and talk - not a lot of overall catches. Go be big this game and do some damage. You're the future WR on this team along with Key'Shawn.
Bubba - you're 1st on this team in tackles (35), and that is great, but this Defense has mostly sucked all year, and has lacked big plays, consistency, and turnovers. Need you to be more of a quarterback-type leader on defense and get some either sacks, interceptions, or forced fumbles - impact plays like our former great safeties did for years.
I'm just picking these 3 players because they come to mind - there are several more. Anyone can "buy in" and be a hard-working team player when the team is winning, and all is both sunshine and rainbows. However, when the chips are down and the shit is hitting the fan with coaches on the verge of being fired, then we REALLY start to see who has a set of balls and is a REAL football player with pride of ownership to be a better player both individually and for the team.
Some Captain Obvious in this thread, but that is how I see it now with this team. All about the next regime and who is truly going to be an impactful part of it.
JMHO.
