Andyctree, regardless of what party you are a part of the majority of the taxes in this country are paid by the people who make money, not hose who do not who very rarely pay taxes.. The guy you talked about was right, a large percent are living off the system. As a member of the middle class I want a flat tax. Everybody pays the same percentage. That is fair.
Never understand why lazy people care so much about some immigrants looking to work. Its what makes the country the best.

Those millions of hard working people come to this country and IMMEDIATELY go on welfare..... free healthcare, education, food stamps and every other government giveaway. I, for one, am tired of having my tax dollars fund this.
We have a mechanism for those "hard working people" to immigrate legally. I cannot support letting millions pour through our borders and then making free to them what I work hard to get, and making me pay for it as well. SMDH
Some of you are so concerned about helping illegal immigrants that you ignore the poor in this country. Let's help our own before trying to help the rest of the world.

The Internet had been around for DECADES as a government project as the personal communication system between one college grad and another. ALL OF THE necessary components to make it go live for the general public were there for DECADES.........BUT NOOOO......
The Internet is the perfect example of why government ahould be as small as possible and stay out if our way. We could have had the Internet back in the 60s and 70s......BUT NOOOOOOO
also.... what made the Internet useable is that some Scandinavian dude edited down the overbearing markup language created by government into HTML..... a language anyone could use and thus allowing everyone to participate.
STAY THE **** OUT OF OUR WAY should be a campaign slogan.

Because those migrants looking to work are receiving free medical, education, food stanps, cell phones.....all paid for by my tax dollars. I know people here, Americans, who are looking for work, struggling to get by and our government ignores them in order to help out illegal immigrants That's why I care so much.

The whole point is that government doesn't "invest" in the way that private industry invests. They don't care about doing anything efficiently and they don't really care if whatever they set out to do even works.
Governments don't need to invest in technology because entrepreneurs will invest in technology. It was private investment that turned the internet from a data sharing service for academics into what it is today.
If governments hadn't invested in roads and highways (isn't a highway a road?), I guarantee you that private industry would have. Businesses would have wanted easy ways for people to get to them. In the "big railroad" days, it was private companies building the infrastructure. Whenever government builds a rail system, it is never profitable.
I honestly wish there was a strong Libertarian party because that's who I would vote for (if they can actually win). The Federal government should be doing very little. It should be defending the country from foreign threats and it should ensure that everybody has equal rights. They should also provide a "safety net" for people but not the fraud ridden entitlement programs as they exist today. Beyond that, stay out of the way.

Oh, right. Go look up the cost per job created by the invested stimulus dollars. They could have created the same number of jobs cheaper by creating the "Department of Watching Grass Grow" and paying people to watch grass grow.
As far as the auto industry, it didn't need saving. It should have gone through bankruptcy like every other industry in trouble (see the airlines in the last decade). Bankruptcy allows for real restructuring so that the company can thrive on the other side.
The "saving" that the government did, just allowed for more of the same operating philosophies to continue. GM will probably find itself in the same situation in 10 years.

It can invest because it took my money to do it instead of letting me invest. When I invest, I look for things that are run efficiently and properly. When the government "invests" my money, it doesn't. If I lose money making a bad investment, it is gone. If the government loses my money "investing," it just comes back and takes some more or it borrows more and devalues the dollars that I earn.
