Miami Northwestern HC to leave program

Miami Northwestern head coach Max Edwards to leave the program. The longtime leader of one of the preeminent programs in South Florida has sent several players to Miami at both Northwestern and Central during his long resume as a Dade County coach. Guys like Kam Kinchens and Kahlil Brantley were under his tutelage. Will be interesting to see who they choose to replace the South Florida legend.

Interesting Comments from Mario Cristobal

"We still have about five, six, seven pieces that we’d like to add to the roster."

"You got to determine on what you want coming in, and you got to be ready for a couple more things to go out, or set yourself up so you can make room to bring some more people."

"We stayed vanilla throughout the course of the year. This gives us a chance to be really dynamic and very hard to figure out but the part that I love about him is he gets his guys to play really, really damn hard."

"You get to upgrade. You get to bring new and fresh ideas. And you’ll find that I really wanted it this way, let’s go this route and you get it. It’s not as hard as it seems. It’s actually pretty exciting and an opportunity to get better.”

"And then the last five years, really the worst five years in Miami history as it relates to the draft right? That’s not by accident. That falls on recruiting and an organization is responsible for doing that so we knew we had to fix that, and you know what it stinks, it hurts, it keeps you up at night and you better be a tough son of gun and wake up every day and go back to work, because when you sign a class like this, when you retain the right kind of players, that are committed to doing it a certain way, you realize you know what, this is like deja vu, 97, 98, 99."

Wright Move

According to a source, Jason Taylor could potentially move into the defensive line position from his defensive analyst position with Wright's departure.

There are also rumors swirling around defensive backs coach Jahmil Addae and tight ends coach Stephen Field potentially leaving.

James Coley is a name to watch for the tight end position and maybe just maybe DeMarcus Van Dyke could slide into the defensive backs position.

This thread will be updated with information as soon as we receive it.

This Miami team is special

We could very well be watching the best basketball team ever. The numbers certainly show that. I truly believe this a final four team because statistically they are better than who I consider the best team of all time with the 2013 team.

According to Sources

Former Miami Hurricane wide receiver Kevin Beard has interviewed for the wide receivers coach position.

Kevin Beard is in his sixth season on the Toledo Rockets’ staff and fifth as the wide receivers coach. He previously served on the Rockets’ coaching staff as the director of player personnel and assistant recruiting coordinator in 2018.

In 2022, Beard coached a receivers group led by second-team All-MAC selection Jerjuan Newton. The sophomore caught 53 passes for 830 yards and nine touchdowns. In addition, junior Devin Maddox made 39 catches for 548 yards and three touchdowns while sophomore DeMeer Blankumsee caught 41 passes for 512 yards and three scores.

In 2021, Beard led a receivers room that featured Maddox (41 receptions) and junior Isaiah Winstead (38 receptions). The receiving corps was deep, as seven Rocket wide receivers caught at least 13 passes.

In 2020, Beard coached a receivers unit that featured six receivers who caught at least 12 passes. Leading the way was Winstead, who hauled in 25 receptions and earned third-team All-MAC honors.

In 2019, Beard coached Bryce Mitchell to an All-MAC season in which he caught 35 passes for 679 yards and four touchdowns. In addition to Mitchell, senior Desmond Phillips and junior Danzel McKinley-Lewis both caught at least 35 passes and averaged over 10 yards per reception.

Prior to coming to Toledo, Beard was the wide receivers coach at the University of Tennessee in 2017. He began his coaching career in the high school ranks, working with wide receivers as an assistant from 2010-13 at University High School in Davie, Fla. He returned to his alma mater in 2014, where he accepted a position as the assistant director of football operations. A year later, he was named the Hurricanes’ wide receivers coach and passing game coordinator. In 2016, Beard was hired by Georgia as the quality control coach for wide receivers.

Beard was a wide receiver at the University of Miami (Fla.) from 1999-2003, playing a key role on the Hurricanes’ 2001 national championship team. He caught 25 passes for 409 yards in 2001, including four receptions for 41 yards in Miami’s win over Nebraska in the 2002 Rose Bowl. Beard totaled over 900 receiving yards and nine touchdowns in his career, and served as a captain on the 2003 Miami team that went 11-2 and won the 2004 Orange Bowl. Beard enjoyed a four-year professional career in the Arena Football League before embarking on a career in coaching. (Toledo Athletics)

According to sources Beard and former Miami wide receiver, Leonard Hankerson are the final two candidates for the wide receivers coach position with Hankerson as the favorite at the moment.
An announcement is expected to made this week as soon as Monday.
