Hurricanes make Pro Football Focus's Top 101 Players of 2024

Pro Football Focus is releasing its top 101 players of the 2024 season this week

Here's where the Hurricanes are ranked.

51. RB Damien Martinez, Miami (FL)

Often forgotten with Cam Ward’s heroics is how efficient Martinez was as a runner for the Hurricanes. The Oregon State transfer posted a 94.3 rushing grade in 2024, third to only Ashton Jeanty and Cam Skattebo among FBS running backs. He averaged 4.5 yards after contact per attempt, which was second among Power Four tailbacks.

45. WR Xavier Restrepo, Miami (FL)

En route to becoming Miami’s all-time leading receiver, Restrepo had an outstanding season with Cam Ward as his quarterback. He led the ACC with an 83.5 receiving grade and 1,127 receiving yards. He dropped just two of his 95 targets and set a career-high with 11 touchdowns. Restrepo made his case as arguably the best slot receiver in the country.

3. QB Cam Ward, Miami (FL)

After playing the role of a gunslinger Washington State, Ward transferred to the Hurricanes and became the best quarterback in college football. He was the most valuable player in the nation according to PFF’s wins above average metric while his 92.9 PFF grade led all FBS signal-callers. Ward led the nation with 39 passing touchdowns while his 4,313 passing yards and 31 big-time throws were both second.

Ashton Jeanty and Travis Hunter were ranked 2nd and 3rd respectively.

Huge news in the area tonight with Jvari Flowers moving up to the 2025 class, multiple sources confirmed with Rivals. Miami will be a major player down the stretch despite new offers in to the speedy CB, including Georgia and Ole Miss of late. Syracuse, Illinois and others made strong impressions at the end of the year as well.

Georgia was the only scheduled visit for JF, set for this weekend. It will be his first time in Athens.

Miami Hurricanes shining at the Senior Bowl/Shrine Bowl

The Miami Hurricanes are well represented at the senior bowl.

Tight end Elijah Arrroyo, wide receiver Xavier Restrepo, running back Damien Martinez and Jalen Rivers are the four Canes at the Senior Bowl.

NFL.com analysts Lance Zierlein Eric Edholm and had this to say about Arroyo:

One of the things I had to weigh in my evaluation of Arroyo heading into this week was a major knee injury that limited him to just 11 total games during the 2022 and 2023 seasons. He was a heralded recruit coming into Miami, but he made just 11 catches from 2021 to 2023.

It looked like his athleticism and speed improved as the 2024 season wore on, and Arroyo validated that on Tuesday, looking fluid and fast in one-on-one drills when matched up against linebackers and cornerbacks. He ran routes with good leverage and frequently created separation at the top of his route.

Despite his relatively modest career snap count and production, Arroyo's flashes in Tuesday’s practice highlighted his potential and the reason my colleague Daniel Jeremiah included him in his initial ranking of the draft’s top 50 prospects.

Reid from ESPN had this take on Arroyo:

Ohio 2026 OT impressed by Miami visit

Ohio 2026 offensive tackle Ben Congdon took a swing through Florida last weekend. He visited Florida, Florida State and Miami. While he said each school had a nice campus he really loved coach Mirabal and Cooper Williams. Congdon also liked the setup at Miami between Mirabel and Mario Cristobal.

"Yeah I find that really appealing, because they both care about the OL development," Congdon said.

He said of that group of schools he is most likely to visit Miami and Florida State again. Congdon has been a hot name in the Midwest this month so he's definitely a player in the trenches to keep an eye on.
