Carson Beck throwing for the first time after surgery

According to reports, projected starting quarterback and Georgia transfer Carson Beck was cleared to throw per head coach Mario Cristobal.

Cristobal said Monday that Beck has been cleared to participate in all team summer activities and is approaching 100 percent following elbow surgery last year.

Cristobal said Beck has been throwing for the past three weeks as part of his rehab regimen. Beck missed all of spring practice and has yet to throw to Miami's receivers as part of organized team activities. But that is all about to change when Miami begins summer workouts next week.

"He's good to go," Cristobal told ESPN at the ACC spring meetings. "He's exceeding every benchmark."

Beck underwent surgery on his right elbow to repair his ulnar collateral ligament, which he injured on the final play of the first half in second-ranked Georgia's 22-19 overtime win against Texas in the SEC championship game on December 7th

Beck started at Georgia for two seasons, going 24-3, and ESPN's Mel Kiper Jr. had him rated as the No. 5 quarterback for the 2025 draft. Beck entered the portal in January and transferred to Miami

Beck threw for 7,426 yards over his two seasons as Georgia's starter, fifth most among all FBS passers since 2023, with 57 total touchdowns and 23 turnovers.

ESPN's Andrea Adelson contributed to this report.

Beck posted on his Instagram story of him throwing today

ESPN ranks Miami in early college football top-25

21. Miami Hurricanes

2024 record: 10-3, 6-2 ACC

Previous ranking: 23

Top returning players: RB Mark Fletcher, RB Jordan Lyle, OT Markel Bell, OT Francis Mauigoa, TE Elija Lofton, G Matthew McCoy, DE Rueben Bain, DE Akheem Mesidor, LB Wesley Bissainthe, CB OJ Frederique

Key transfer portal additions: QB Carson Beck (Georgia), WR CJ Daniels (LSU), WR Kellan Marion (BYU), WR Tony Johnson (Cincinnati), C James Brockermeyer (TCU), CB Xavier Lucas (Wisconsin), S Zechariah Poyser (Jacksonville State), DT David Blay (Louisiana Tech)

2025 outlook: Much of the Hurricanes' hopes in 2025 ride on Beck's surgically repaired right arm. He sat out spring practice after undergoing surgery to repair a torn UCL in his right elbow. If he's healthy and cuts down on the turnovers that plagued him at Georgia last season, Miami's offense might be one of the better ones in the ACC. The Hurricanes have two dependable tailbacks and what could be an excellent offensive line.

The receiver room needed depth, so coach Mario Cristobal picked up Daniels, Marion, and Johnson from the portal. Poyser and Lucas will help fill a couple of holes in the secondary, and Bain and Mesidor are healthy and have slimmed down. The Hurricanes open the season against Notre Dame on Aug. 31 and play Florida at home on Sept. 20.

PFF names Miami Francis Mauigoa as an offensive line prospect to know for the 2026 NFL Draft

Mauigoa has been starting at right tackle for the Hurricanes since his true freshman season. The former five-star recruit showed marked improvement as a pass blocker during his sophomore campaign, allowing just two combined sacks/hits on 534 pass-blocking snaps. He was the only FBS tackle with two or fewer knockdowns surrendered on 500-plus pass-blocking snaps.

Mauigoa’s 71.4 PFF run-blocking grade since 2023 also ties for fourth among ACC tackles. He still needs to refine his game, but he’s one of the favorites to be OT1 in the 2026 NFL Draft.

Kayden Proctor of Alabama, Spencer Fano of Utah, Jake Slaughter of Florida, Armaj Reed-Adams of Texas A&M, Isaiah World of Oregon, Gennings Dunker of Iowa, Iapani Laloulu of Oregon, Caleb Lomu of Utah and Logan Jones of Iowa were the other O-Linemen mentioned.

PFF names Rueben Bain Jr. as a defensive lineman to know for the 2026 NFL Draft

A calf injury kept Bain from making significant strides in his sophomore year, but he still deserves a spot on this list for his body of work.

Bain’s 73 pressures since 2023 are the third most among returning Power Four edge defenders, and his 16.9% pass-rush win rate ranks fourth. His 82.7 PFF run-defense grade this past season also placed fourth among the same group. Bain can line up anywhere on the defensive line at 6-foot-3 and 275 pounds and should remind many why he’s a first-round-caliber talent now that he’s fully healthy.

T.J. Parker of Clemson, Peter Woods of Clemson, Keldric Faulk of Auburn, L.T. Overton of Alabama, Caleb Banks of Florida, Dani Dennis-Sutton of Penn State, Tyreak Sapp of Florida, Matayo Uiagalelei of Oregon, and Christen Miller of Georgia were also listed.

Transfer Portal: Players departing/entering football program in spring window

This live thread will update with news regarding the transfer portal in the spring window.

The spring transfer portal window opens April 16th and closes April 25th.

Joshua Horton intends to enter the transfer portal.

The 6-foot-5, 295-pounder will have three years of eligibility remaining.

As a freshman, Horton appeared in eight games and totaled four tackles (two solo). He dealt with injury that hindered his development.

According to Rivals, Horton was a four-star prospect and the 18th-ranked defensive tackle out of the 2023 class.

PFF names Carson Beck a top-ten quarterback for the 2026 NFL Draft

Carson Beck, Miami (FL)

After entering 2024 as our top-ranked quarterback in the country, Beck disappointed in his final year at Georgia before transferring to Miami (FL). The redshirt senior’s 20 turnover-worthy plays this past season were tied for the sixth most in the country. As that number would indicate, he often forced throws due to the Bulldogs’ underwhelming receiving corps. Georgia’s 31 drops on the season were tied for the second most in the Power Four.

Beck still performed at a solid level, all things considered (80.2 PFF passing grade in 2024). His 90.9 PFF overall grade since 2023 is also the second-best mark of any returning FBS quarterback. Beck is hoping he can find similar success to Cam Ward, who went No. 1 overall to the Tennessee Titans after a standout campaign at Miami.

The other quarterbacks named were Arch Manning from Texas, Cade Klubnik from Clemson, Drew Allar from Penn State, Garrett Nussmeier from LSU, Sam Leavitt from Arizona State, Lanorris Sellers from South Carolina, Nico Iamaleava from UCLA, Taylor Green from Arkansas and Fernando Mendoza from Indiana.
