Tough loss for the Canes tonight...
We wasted a great outing by Brian Van Belle and we lose our closer Federman until Sunday, maybe...
The Gators scored 1st in the 5th...we tied it in the 6th...
In the 10th...we had a man on 1st and Jenkins up with 1 out and hit it in the INF and their throw bounces off the first baseman away from him allowing our lead runner to advance to 3rd and Jenkins at 1st...but he was called for interference running down the 1B line so he's out and our guy on 3rd has to go back to 1st...
In the 11th...the Gates strung 3 hits together to score the go-ahead run...in the bottom of the inning, we got a lead-off runner to 1st...but Toral, who could win it with one swing flies out to CF to end it.
Our problem...only 3 hits...
Here's the Final Linescore:
UF 2 8 1
UM 1 3 2
Tough, tough, loss Caniacs...our fans deserved better...
Game 2 is Sat at 7 pm.
Go Canes!

Good evening, Caniacs:
Well, it's finally here: Canes vs Gators....the best matchup of the weekend...in the country! As U can see in the tweet above, the Canes will be wearing black jerseys tonight!
Check this out: Not only will the 1985 National title team be on hand this weekend but former Cane Mike Piazza will throw out the first pitch tonight. Saturday night: A-Rod (Sunday: J-Lo? I wish )
Take a look at how we stack up with UF:
NATIONAL RANKINGS
D1Baseball.com: UM 1 UF 2
Baseball America: UM 3 UF 2 (Michigan is No. 1, and they lost to UConn today)
*NCBWA: UM 2 UF 5
Collegiate Baseball: UM 2 UF 14 (what are these people thinking?)
Perfect Game: UM 6 UF 13 (see above)
*National Collegiate Baseball Writer's Association
Speaking of Perfect Game, they have lost their minds. When the two top-rated teams, Louisville and Vandy both finished 1-2 last weekend, common sense would indicate they would move down in the rankings. Nope, not according to these guys. Read why:
From Perfect Game: The first PG College Top 25 ranking update proved to be more difficult than expected simply because the top two teams both went 1-2. However, it was hard to penalize them by playing more challenging opponents while others in the Top 25 did not. Not to mention, it's the first weekend of the year and it's hard to know how much stock to put into 3-4 games.
No. 1 Louisville did lose, to Ole Miss on the Rebels' home turf in Oxford, a series that provided plenty of drama in what was long-identified as the top series to kick off the 2020 campaign. No. 2 Vanderbilt lost a pair of heartbreakers on Friday and Sunday, first to a ranked Michigan club and next to a pesky Cal Poly squad that clearly is poised to make some noise in the Big West.
I smell “everyone gets a trophy” syndrome. So, because these teams had to play tough games on the road and in tough environments, they still deserve to be ranked No. 1 & No. 2? And what’s with “pesky” Cal Poly? Vandy blows a late lead at a neutral site) and loses a game and we have to get out a hanky? Of course, they're about those Cal poly Mustangs who finished 28-28 last year. Oh, that Cal Poly! PGs thinking sets a bad precedent if U ask me.
U can read their nonsense here: Perfect Game Top 25 (PG Link)
What NCAA.com is saying about this series: It's early and a lot of strong contenders are still finding their footing, but to get a No. 1 vs. No. 2 matchup before March is certainly one to watch. Miami's bats are clicking right now, hitting .313 (35th nationally) as a team with six home runs. Adrian Del Castillo — one of our preseason player-of-the-year candidates — leads the way hitting .583 with two home runs. Florida's bats are clicking as well (.326/24th nationally), but so is the pitching. Combined the Gators have pitched to a 2.43 ERA with 42 strikeouts in 37 innings pitched. This should be a classic battle for the Sunshine State.
So, U think we can go back to Omaha this year? NCAA.com thinks so:
NCAA.com makes the case for Miami (FL): The Hurricanes learned how to win again in 2019 under first-year head coach Gino DiMare and return just about the entire lineup and three of the four regular starting pitchers. Adrian Del Castillo (.331, 12 home runs, 72 RBI) will move behind the plate full-time this season, looking to build off a tremendous freshman All-American campaign as all of Miami's big power bats are back.
PREDICTION (FWIW):
At D1Baseball.com: out of 8 staffers, 4 picks Miami to win the series, 4 picks Florida
SERIES STATS
Overall: Miami leads, 130-124-1
At Miami: Miami leads, 80-46
Since 2008 under HC Kevin O’Sullivan: Florida leads, 31-13
Vs. Top-10 Miami Teams under O'Sullivan: Florida leads, 7-1
Recent History: Florida has won each of the last five regular-season series, and 12 of the last 15 games. That streak needs to end this weekend!
