Greeting, Caniacs:

First, a BIG round of thanks to all of U who provided game updates on Sunday in my absence. I greatly appreciate U guys stepping up.

Second, how 'bout them Canes!!!!! Two years in a row we sweep UVA and this time around it was the first time we have done it at their place.

Sunday Game Recap: Canes Complete First-Ever Sweep at UVA, 3-1 (UM Link)

Okay, for your reading pleasure, below U will find stats galore including:
*How we did vs UVA (our pitching was off the charts)
*Conference standings, RPI, team, and individual stats
*Current team record to date, vs the previous 3 years to see improvement (except 2016)
*Polls (we are once again ranked)
*Remaining schedule

Big Question: Have this team turned the corner? We are 10-3 since getting swept by NCST. In that time we have shut out FSU 2x, swept UVA and lost once each at Pitt by 1, home to FSU by 1 and home by 2 to FAU.

MIDWEEK RECORD

Last year, I think we finished our midweek games 3-8. To date, we are 8-2 so we have improved there.

PITCHING

Although more than a few people on this board wanted J.D. run out of the program earlier this year, I think some of U can, at least for now, do a 180 and give credit where credit is due. Against FSU and UVA our pitching was phenomenal.

HITTING

Last year, our team hit a total of 23 HRs. This year, we matched that total after just 15 games. Heading into Tuesday night's game vs FGCU we are No. 1 in the ACC with 50! What's changed? I have no idea.

FIELDING

The glaring weakness on the team. We are ranked 12th in the ACC out of 14 teams with 48 errors. It has already cost us games and it will continue to haunt us unless this part of the game can be fixed, and fixed quickly. It could make or break our chances of making the post-season.

BOTTOM LINE

As of today, we are a much better team than the last 2 years and major kudos to Coach G in his first season. Some may point to the fact that No. 3 is no longer in charge. Fair assessment. But the same people responsible for hitting, pitching and fielding are still on staff so what's changed (minus fielding which remains an issue)? Maybe the way we coach, IDK.

I think U will agree with me that if we can keep the MOJO going into the ACC tournament, we have a very good chance (with our RPI) of getting back to the post-season.

We'll find out a lot about our team beginning Thursday when we travel to meet a top 10 team in Louisville. For sure, we have to keep winning the midweek games and we have to win more weekend series that we lose. As we often talk about in football: winning will take care of everything.

Anyway, as usual, it's just my .02.

Below, U will find more in-depth info on the above categories and much more.

For now, this is a one-shot deal. I'd go cross-eyed trying doing this weekly. I may try again going into the ACC tourney and IF we make the post-season.

So, pick 'n choose your stats and enjoy!
