On November 22 2021, Monday The International Institute For Democracy And Electoral Assistance, based in Stockholm, Sweden released its 2021 report on "The Global State Of Democracy." Democracy is at risk, the report's introduction begins. "Its survival is endangered by a perfect storm of threats, both from within and from a rising tide of authoritarianism." "The world is becoming more authoritarian as non democratic regimes become even more brazen in their repression and many democratic governments suffer from backsliding by adopting their tactics of restricting free speech and weakening the rule of law."
The report identifies the United States as one of the democracies that is "backsliding", meaning that it has experienced gradual but significant weaking of checks on Government and Civil Liberties, such as Freedom of Expression and Freedom of Association and Assembly, over time."
"The United States, the bastion of global democracy, fell victim to authoritarian tendencies itself, and was knocked down a significant number of steps on the democratic scale, " the report says.
That fall continues to be pushed by malign foreign actors. An investigation by Jordan Liles of Snopes.com shows the foreign social media accounts are magnifying right wing voices. In the wake of the Rittenhouse acquittal, for example, foreign accounts posing as Americans appeared to celebrate the decision.
Frank Figliuzzi, the former Assistant Director of US counterintelligence Of The FBI, tweeted 32,315 pro Rittenhouse hashtag tweets from November 19-20, 29,609 had disabled geological location. Of them, 17, 701 was listed as "foreign", and most of those were in Russia, China and the EU.
Plenty of Americans are along for the authoritarian ride, too. A story by David Farenthold, Josh Dawsey, Isaac Stanley-Becker and Shayna Jacobs of the Washington Post revealed that the Republican National Committee (RNC) is using party funds to pay for some of former US President Donald Trump's legal bills. Allies of RNC chairperson Ronna McDaniel note that since Trump is the biggest draw the party has for fund raising, it is important to cultivate his goodwill.
This dumps the RNC into the January 06, 2020 insurrection mess by aligning the party's central organization with Trump.
That mess is deepening. The other day the US House Selection Committee that is assigned to investigate the Jan 06 attack on the US Capitol issued five (5) new subpoenas to people involved in planning the rallies in Washington, D.C. , on Jan 06 and the subsequent march to the capitol.
The subpoenas went to Dustin Stockton and Jennifer Lawrence, who organized the "Women For America First" rally, and Trump spokesperson Taylor Budowich, who called for a social media blitz. Another subpoena went to Roger Stone, who pushed for the rally and raised money for it, and who hired members of the OathKeepers, several of whom were at the riot as personal bodyguards. Right wing newscaster Alex Jones got one, too; he helped to organize the rallies, spoke at one held Jan 05, and claimed to have provided 80% of the funding for the rally held on Jan 06.
A few days ago, Representative Zoe Lofgren (D-CA), who sits on the committee, told members of the media that many of people they have interviewed so far ---more than 200---have been Trump officials who testified voluntarily and wanted to be subpoenaed for "cover".
On this same day, Nov 22nd, conservative columnist Max Boot called out Republican law makers for "formenting violent extremism" and noted they have become hostage to the extremists in their ranks because "they fear for their safety should they standup to Trump loyalists. Right-wing extremists have threatened the lives of the 13 Republicans who voted for the bipartisan infrastructure bill.
Two long-standing Fox news contributors Steve Hayes and Jonah Goldberg quit the enterprise on this day over Tucker Carlson's 3 part series "Patriot Purge." That series, they wrote, "is presented in the style of an expose' , a hard hitting piece of investigative journalism. In reality, it is a collection of incoherent --conspiracy mongering, riddled with inaccuracies, half--truths, deceptive imagery, and damning omissions. "
Hayes and Goldberg said they could no longer work at the Fox News Channel because "we sincerely believe all people of goodwill and good judgement ---regardless of their partisan or ideological commitments---can agree that a cavalier and even a contemptuous attitude towards facts, truth--seeking and truth--telling lies at the heart of so much that plagues this country."

The word Democracy means different things to different people.
This is the kind of democracy that Hawaiian supports:

Ask him thru your mask. Funny it’s right on your face and you don’t see it. Who’s living was threatened by a Trump mandate and when did he use OSHA to get his way ? Trump did use executive Orders not mandates. Name me the Trump mandates that you speak of.
You can dodge the issue at hand but we all know Trump has done similar shzt.

Didnt dodge anything just asked you to identify the MANDATES you speak of. I’d say I’ll wait but history has taught me you just make statements you can’t backup.

Saying similar vs. specifying details equals Bovine cookies that CEMS is snacking on.
Look, that lying POS tried to overthrow our government. He lied nonstop about the election stolen from him with no freaken evidence. His approach to governing was Putinish. The man has lied to you but still you believe him. The Republican party is about restricting voter access and of course eliminating our democratic form of government.

So you can’t name these MANDATES that you’re so upset about or just spreading lies.

So how many people in this record amount of voters were denied the right to vote. Why aren’t they on the news ? I’m talking actual people with actual proof of all this voter suppression. Wouldn’t the Democrats publicize these specific cases to prove their point.

Move to lounge I can see your smoking your weed again this morning. Funny how conservatives should not have freedom of speech but looting and burning city’s down is ok. Move it to the lounge please.
@bobbie jo @Islamorada cane @ZEKEMUG @central17 @utatem Kyle Rittenhouse, who was acquitted last Friday 11/19, on all charges on the shooting deaths of Joseph Rosenbaum and Anthony Huber and the wounding of Gage Grosskruetz is involved with the "Fightback Foundation" organized by STOP THE STEAL lawyer Lin Wood, over the $2M bail posted for Rittenhouse. Rittenhouse's lawyers claim the money was raised for their client and thus "should be his" ; Wood contends that he raised the money (although apparently not all of it) and thus should go to his organization.
A number of Republican Governors are facing primary challengers loyal to and backed by Trump, and according to the Wall Street Journal, former VP Mike Pence told the Republican Governors Association this week that he would be supporting incumbent Republican Governors rather than support Trump--backed challengers. Trump spokesperson Budowich---now under subpoena--responded, "just like in previous cycles, successful Republican candidates must earn the support of Donald J Trump."
As the Republican party falls to autocracy, President Biden is focused on making Americans believe in Democracy by making the economy work for regular people. His policies are working.
Also on Nov 22, the CEO of Walmart, Doug McMillon explicitly praised the Biden administration for its actions to reduce pandemic related supply chain shortages, which are easing. "I would like to credit the current administration for helping to get the ports open 24 hrs per day, to opening up the trucking lines---it takes a lot of effort and work to do that---and then all the way thru the supply chain there has been a lot of innovation, and week after week, in the 3rd quarter particular, sequentially, each month of the quarter got stronger, the number of containers that we were moving through the ports have grown significantly."

Rittenhouse claims Lyn Wood kept him in jail to raise money for himself and his causes. Walmart CEO so impressed with Biden and supply chain solutions Walmart has chartered their own vessels.

Lyn Wood = A1 scum bag - Rittenhouse was in jail for 87 days with a $2 million bail - Wood let him sit there so he could keep raising $$$ for himself

TBH, I’m actually surprised you posted anything from Sweden, considering they didn’t lockdown because of COVID and didn’t lessen their people freedoms like the US did with their mask mandates, curfews and restrictions and I’m sure you’ve posted somewhere on how they were wrong

i figured they would be to unreliable of a source considering they saw through the smoke of the Science you've been chirping about for over a year in the Lounge

Maybe they were right about COVID and wrong about this? Or maybe they were wrong about COVID and right about this? Oh the irony

Soon, there will be something going on in Birmingham, AL. It is part of Biden's infrastructure package. It will impact the area tremendously. According to a press release that covered a statement from Gary Palmer, Birminghams Congressional rep. The press release said "Birmingham is one of the largest metropolitan areas in the country that doesnt have a belt way. The building and completion of this belt way will benefit the entire region of Birmingham by enhancing economic development and will create employment opportunities." Of course when birmingham finally gets a beltway all the way around it will create massive amounts of economic activity, a huge deal. The Appalachian regional Commission has noted the completion of the belt way will have an annual economic impact exceeding $2B in 10 years. And has the potential to create 14,000 jobs. "This is the opportunity we have been waiting for as a state. Now it is time for us to take advantage of it and complete the work by finishing The Northern beltline and building a better future for the Birmingham metro area and Central Alabama. " NO LIES DETECTED. Isnt that wild???!!!! All of this is true. However, there is one thing thats missing.
The press release that was put out to celebrate it, put out by the aforementioned Gary Palmer, actually voted against it. We can expect to see a lot of this.
These packages the current administration is pushing thru over Republican opposition, they're good for the country! Good for pretty much everywhere! And the Republicans who voted against it, are going to try to take credit for it. At least in the case of Birmingham, AL there is some leeway for Rep. Palmer because he did introduce similar legislation. But I would point out it may not be the talking point you might think it is; suggesting Biden was able to accomplish something Palmer couldnt, or democrats look out for your district better than you do and may not win him the votes he thinks it will.
If I should hear on a news outlet that someone who voted against the infrastructure package I will certainly let you know. These are the same folks who will say how great the infrastructure package will be. This is something everyone should know. Because the infrastructure package, which has gone thru and the components that are on the way, its great for the economy, great for jobs, And great for the country. Could it be better??? Sure. But that is unlikely because look how long this package took its because of Republicans who voted against it.
These politicians know its good for their districts. Its good for the people of all metropolitan areas. But they will still vote against it out of partisan interests!!! They dont represent the people of the metropolitan areas; They represent themselves. @krvanness

This is RICH coming from Sweden. I wouldnt trust anything from Sweden. They are spectators.

There is NO threat of us back sliding into authoritarian rule. As long as the masses are armed we are safe from totalitarianism.

Weakness welcomes authoritarian rule....we have seen this a few times before with embolden countries...the same result will come to those who abuse power..They will fail....There is only one country that can stop it from happening a 3rd time. US

before we came along authoritarian rule was 100% of the world.

NO we haven't been perfect but today we are together and gathering for the next attempt of communism to take over.

We shall prevail again. and Sweden will be a spectator again.

On the other hand, we'll no longer be dealing with this Turd's logorrhea.

Move to lounge I can see your smoking your weed again this morning. Funny how conservatives should not have freedom of speech but looting and burning city’s down is ok. Move it to the lounge please.
I’m just impressed someone typed that long of a message for no one to read.

So you're implying you are a "rubber"? Who's the rubbee?"

The real question is, which of you whinney-ass Libs cried to Gary that your political sensitivity has been bruised?

Apparently the childish ditty was beyond your island mentality.
It's,' I'm rubber
You're glue
What bounces off me
Sticks to you'

Well, Vaffanculo. You don't use bad talk. How noble. Now work on the lies and incompetence coming out of the White House.

Never mind, we'll handle that in November.
