I'm curious as to what some of you expected when we signed Tate?

Did you guys really think he was going to win a throwing contest which is basically what Spring Practice is against Williams and Perry?

Perry was always billed as having a fantastic arm and Williams has always been billed as extremely accurate and throws a great ball. Both of which really shows up in a throwing competition.

Tate has always been a guy that runs an offense efficiently and is one of the best in the business at freelancing when a play breaks down. Currently we have like 10% of the offense installed so he can't show how well he runs it and in Spring ball you are very rarely if ever freelancing, in fact the opposite occurs as when pressure gets put on the QB they touch him and then he still throws the ball as if he didn't just supposedly get fictionally clobbered.

Being less accurate and throwing wobbly balls with less velocity are fundamental symptoms smaller QB's face as they have smaller hands to grip the ball and control it and generate less velocity with shorter arms.

Have the reports been discouraging, yes a little bit. Could he be playing better, yes. With that being said, this isn't really a QB competition yet and he was always going to come in 3rd place to the other 2 in a throwing competition so I think a lot of the outrage is extremely premature.

Tate could just be a gamer which you really wouldn't see in this environment anyways. Remember in a real QB competition both guys he's competing against lost to Malik Rosier and one has college experience at about a 50% completion clip. When the bullets start flying it's a totally different ball game.
