Asked him his thoughts on the spread offense and if he got back into coaching would he look into running a version of it or would he stay prostyle. He basically said that as a coach you have to willing to evolve. That when he coached at Oklahoma st they had more prostyle guys with Jimmy. At Miami they were more prostyle as well but when he went to unc they started to incorporate some spread. He said that the thing he likes or tends to favor is the QB that can move. He said he recruited guys like Everett golson and marquis Williams. Guys that were mobile and can throw. He said that he doesn't think u can go completely spread because those teams tend to struggle in the redzone but he likes what TCU is doing.
He also commented on that the main thing you need to be is strong in both the offensive and defensive lines. He said you need guys that can get after the QB and guys that can protect the QB as well. Mark commented on the fact that he had both at Miami and UNC. He said that yah we had some good guys but he talked about being at Miami and what took us from the 9-3 teams to the 11-1 and 12-0 teams. He said the 11-1 and 12-0 teams were a result of them us Getting better on the oline and getting guys like mckinnie. they talked about the guys he had on the oline and dlines at Miami and UNC.... Ridiculous the amount of talent and draft picks he put into the league from both sides of the line at both schools.
After talking to coach I'm definitely in the " bring back butch camp". He has A LOT of love for us. Every time a caller called in and asked him a question most of the examples he used was from his time at Miami and what they were able to do in Miami.
I know Gary mentioned that Butch was assembling an all star staff earlier this year when all the golden stuff was happening. I pray if golden is let go they let Butch assemble that stuff and put us on the map. This would be a huge home run hire. A urban Meyer to Ohio st, Jim haurbaugh to mich type impact hire. Dude knows what it takes, has the connections, would hire a kick butt staff and keep us in the top 5-10 recruiting classes.
