Put simply you cannot fire a guy everytime the fan base is unhappy. Other circumstances come into play in that decision.

Did he inherit a fair situation? Does he deserve more time depending on the situation he inherited?

To say Coker or Shannon got less consideration is FALSE. Coker inherited a Rolls Royce and slowly watched it deteriorate into a jalopy.

Shannon did not inherit a great roster but also did not inherit an NCAA sanctioned team.

Golden is getting 1 additional year than Shannon and 1 LESS year then Coker. Hardly evidence he has been treated differently.

Put it to you another way, if the roles were reversed and Shannon had inherited what Golden inherited he would be getting a 5th year, period. This has less to do with the individual and more to do with the perceived mess the current coach inherited and Miami wanting to make sure that coach was given a fair shot, especially once the cloud was lifted, at putting Miami back on the map.

But more importantly read Blake James comments. He fully expects Miami to compete for an ACC title this year. No excuses. So anyone who thinks Coach Golden can win 7 or 8 games and keep his job because Miami is “committed to mediocrity” give it a rest. He was always getting a 5th year, no matter who was coaching Miami. It was just the way it was.

But his free passes are over and HE KNOWS IT. AND BLAKE JAMES MADE THAT CLEAR TODAY.

I have repeatedly said this and I will say it again, people think there was no consequences to last year’s collapse because he was not fired. WRONG!!! He was getting a 5th year NO MATTER WHAT. The consequence is the likelihood if they had a mediocre season THIS YEAR(2015)would he be given a 6th year. The answer NOW is NO. But f he had finished say 8-4 last year, then the answer to that last question was probably YES.
