We need to see how this season shakes out with Coach Diaz before we start looking for the next Urban, Saban or Dabo. Follow me here:
We lose to UF (arguably a very good team) and NC (arguably a bad team). We skate by CMU (arguably better than NC). Okay!
Not only is Coach Diaz new, he has a new OC with new offensive philosophies. Funny enough, this biggest disappointments are (1) defensive big plays allowed and kicking game. The offense is probably better than last year. Offense will (hopefully) come. New offensive coaching staff. New QB. Other new players getting snaps.
Second, many complained that Coach Diaz would hire a puppet so he could still run the defense. That hasn’t happened (or isn’t obvious). He IS letting his new defensive coaching staff/structure do their job with, what seems to be, “normal head coach” oversight. I see it as Coach Diaz is wanting to prove being an all-around good head coach and now pegged as defensive focused only.
Third, he loves “The U”! He isn’t interested in only getting paid. He is interested in the success for (yes his too) the University of Miami.
First year coaches (either first gig or at current school):
It does take time. Not all new coaching staff will go 12-0 ala Urban at OSU. Not all coaches should be fired 4 games in (as some are already posting on who the next HC should be).
We’ll get there! At least, that’s how I’m looking at it.
