For Bama (or Clemson, UNC, LSU, Clemson in ACCCG, even Okie St. in bowl game), ie big games over the past 5 years where we did not really show up, we have started extremely slow, especially on defense but also on offense. So often down 21-0 or 21-3 out of the gates and fighting our way back. Against UF we went down the field on the opening drive and we were in it the whole way. If you listen to the players today, each of them was acknowledging the need to start fast and not try and feel out the game early and be on your heels. Fast and aggressive for 60 min. is the only way to get it done in the big games. Other examples of Manny making changes....
Our offense was so inconsistent under Enos, and Richt the year before, that he changes to a spread and hires Lashlee
QB play was terrible so he gets King
LB play was terrible last year so he has 2 new starters instead of going with the seniors (Jennings, McCloud)
Carter was too slow at safety but a good blitz and in the box guy so moves him to striker
WR was not explosive so he benches Wiggins/Pope and brings in Rambo/Smith
He talks about having guys leave too early and then gets a bunch of them to "run it back' for this season....
These seem so obvious during the season but the dude actually tries to make the changes to get better and that is half the battle. Now let's see if it means anything other than lip service on Saturday.
