We all have been some what frustrated with the play calling at this point, I really feel Richt should be encompassing some of what Coley did that had Brad doing ok the past couple of years.
Kaaya has had bright moments under center & in the gun but It's up both Richts to figure out what works best for him & the team.
Now a couple things I see:
-Our base offense should be (I formation 11 personnel). Traditionally it's 3 WRs & 1 TE but Njoku can be lined up in TE,slot or outside as #3 with Herndon in line occassionally. Berrios/Harris split rep as #3 WR. This is just better for RPO & it forces D to respect the 3 WR.
-use more motions & shifts. Coach Diaz & Kool have guys moving causing confusion. It's time Richt do the same, move Coley around& motion backs out the field more. Both backs have good hands & can line up at WR. Yearby & Kaaya have connected on a deep bomb before. Hell I'd even line Walton next to both TEs (trips) & run a screen, RPO check to Yearby in the backfield if the box numbers are favorable or go to Coley/Richards if they have matchup backside.
-Richt showed 2 new formations (once a piece I believe) a WR bunch w/1 WR on backside & a shotgun, 4 WR set. Both were promising but I think Njoku was out of bounds on the bunch formation call. These formations & groupings need to be used more. Very explosive.
-can we please get a post or double move routes. Yes those are long developing plays & the OL is inconsistent but both can be called from shotgun with complimentary routes under to check down if pressure. The middle of the field is constantly open.
-mix in all screen passes(bubble, HB & jail break). Miami has had succes running all three. Needs to call 2-3 more in the game. Also a bubble & go call works, CB are starting to jump the bubble.
Gun is ok but Kaaya needs to be under center more, I really hope Richt shows some creativity & aggression Thursday night. I want him to be successful here but he's going need to open it up a bit.
Last thing Kaaya deep ball accuarcy really is a major concern. Needs to be rep in practice everyday. NFL coaches want to be able to go deep & connect.
