central17 here's the deal i have said many times, the military should be on the border. I'm not for open borders at all NONE, Even if the US could build a wall from pacific to the gulf what then, are you to seal off the gulf and pacific as well, stop determined people from tunneling under it
You are correct, about people still trying, but the numbers would be far lower. Kind of like safes do not prevent bank robberies but they greatly reduce them.
With a wall we would not be spending millions on refuge camps and far fewer children would be put through this charade.

100% agree with you about supporting Latin America's economic growth - especially in their providing simple manufacturing of the kind of products that now are made in China. Give the entire value chain tax advantages over Chinese imports. That is a longterm solution that should be started immediately. It is probably too logical for BOTH political parties.
But also 100% believe the USA needs to control its borders. If there are better ways, then let's discuss? But we cannot continue the current look the other way, then feel sorry for people that broke US law's. I have paid for the processing of legal immigration (H1B), very costly and time consuming. It is simply not fair to have one set of rules for Mexico and Central America and another for the rest of the world. I trust a wall more than I trust politicians. We have ICE, Border Patrol and other government agencies being told to stand down by the Biden 🤡 show. Not Bidens fault or anyones fault. No country has ever been or will ever be prepared to receive Millions of immigrants. Im not going to join the parade of idiots who blamed Trump for immigration. NO doubt the places they leave are the appalling situations. No country has ever handled immigration as well as we have and will keep handling it. The more people that immigrate illegally the less money goes to under privileged poor communities .
We could rebuild every low income community in America if it weren't for the million and a half illegal immigrants. NO im not blaming people for finding a better place to live. It is what it is.
Are you really under the impression the border would solely be protected by just a wall? It’s a multi-layered grid of protection. What a wall does is force the paths to certain funnel points and also created a barrier large enough to deter foot traffic.
