Some more I’m hearing on the scrimmage
Van Dyke and Garcia were very sharp, looked great out there. Both threw multiple TDs with no INTs (although Van Dyke was unlucky to have a 10-yard toss dropped in the end zone).
Jaleel Skinner really emerged with a pair of TDs, including on which he ran over 2 defenders and another on a busted coverage he took for a 40-yard score.
An interesting note here is that Ryan Rodriguez replaced Laurence Seymore as the second team center. Rodriguez continues to practice in a red limited jersey but has been cleared.
The first team O line didn’t have its best day, with Van Dyke sacked several times and being forced to scramble several other times. But Van Dyke was just Van Dyke, overcoming lost yardage plays with big downfield passes.
The defense is going to be very multiple and are really disguising their coverages well, which is going to be a good sign for the season regardless of the play on that side of the ball today.
There were some dropped passes, which has to be fixed, and also no long runs but it was a consistent enough rushing attack to help keep the chains moving. Certainly, though, UM needs to see the run game get going better than it looked today.
