Some good decisions in the Lounge re Covid testing for athletes vs testing for regular students. How about testing for regular Americans?

In my family across various locations in Cali, 6 people without symptoms sought testing in the last two weeks. They wanted tests before a family event brought them together. Variable experiences, though all ultimately tested “negative.”

* Finding a testing site where tests were readily available to people without symptoms was difficult. Medical insurance did not cover asymptomatic tests. Extensive internet research required. Ultimately, 3 family members found a local location available to asymptomatic people. Appointment 2 days out for a no wait drive through, self administered test. No pain or discomfort. Free.

* Those 3, however, had to wait 9 days for results to come via email. Results had been promised in 2-7 days. They all checked their emails constantly from day 2 onward. Reading the test results revealed that it took 5 days for the samples to reach the testing lab located 3,000 miles away. That lab then took 4 additional days to reveal the results.

* The other 3 people chose to visit private Urgent Care facilities in their neighborhoods. No symptoms necessary. No insurance coverage. Those locations offered quick appointments and same day results....for a fee of $150.

All were ultimately happy to be negative. Those who paid out of pocket for same day results were the happiest.

You do realize those tests meant nothing other than at the time they were tested they were negative. 9 days later when they finally received the test they could have been now positive?

Not sure what the point of healthy people getting tested is.

I do realize that a 9 day delay in getting tests results undermines some/most of the value of the test. A 2-7 day turnaround was promised but not delivered.

For our motivation for testing, I mentioned that a family event would bring people together. The tests were aimed at possibly “positive” but asymptomatic family members. Feels cautious but sensible to me.

I went from South Florida to other residence in NJ. Upon return I decided to get tested here in south Fl. Nightly news showed cars in lines forever with horrific wait times. Drove over to Twins spring training complex on a Saturday afternoon this is where tests were being conducted. The whole process from gate to test 12 minutes. Results four days later, negative. Now if I go to supermarket am I suppose to retest ? Don’t see the big deal except for news to spread fear.

You live in the people’s republic of California. It’s always f-cked up! I’d love to share with you some of the fraud cases I’ve worked out in Southern Cali. Bunch of f’ing weirdos

PBC has a site set up at the Astros spring facilities. I drive by twice a day and I have not seen more then 4 cars at the facility at any time.

There running a special here, get 20 positive results for only one test.

Great here in S.W. Florida. Testing is set up at the Minnesota Twins spring training facility. In and out within 30 minutes. Also , CVS is set up with a drive thru lane for testing. They took my insurance. Got results back in 4 days. State testing at the Twins Facility took 5 days.
