It supposedly has already been decided that Manny is finishing out the year. Done deal no matter what happens he is not getting fired at any point during the last 4 weeks of the season. At this point they feel he deserves the chance to finish out and also they are worried about a bunch of de-commitments if he is fired mid-season. So let's end that speculation. I was told it was highly unlikely anyway. They are not worried about getting a head start since USC and LSU are not going to hire until season's over anyway.

But that does not mean he won't get fired once the season is over which leads to the dilemma, 2 scenarios:

Scenario 1: He loses one or more of the last 4. He is likely gone from what I am told. Straightforward.

Scenario 2: He wins out and finishes 8-4. Here is the dilemma. If they decide to bring him back he almost assuredly goes on the hot seat immediately. There is no way he survives another mediocre season. It would mean a minimum of 10 wins and ACC title (not just ACCCG appearance) to warrant a contract extension and more security. Do you take that risk knowing full well that you may have to cut bait in a year anyway? See USC and Helton this year vs last year. Or do you suck it up and say nice finish but simply the body of work is not enough to warrant a return and move on at the end of the season despite a 6 game winning streak. Because if you have a chance to land a good proven coach NOW and that chance may not exist in a year when you maybe forced to pull the trigger anyway and fire him do you suck it up, pay the buyout and move on. There is your dilemma. Not easy.
