What are the specific characteristics of "weapons of war" to which you refer? I'm not super knowledgeable about guns, so I want to be sure I know what you (and Beto) are talking about.
Basically two military level armed and trained guards in every school. Strict access control. Significant use of technology. They assume it is going to happen and take it seriously. They make every attempt to keep the bads guys out and plan to put a bullet between their eyes if anyone tries anything. The protection comes from a hard core miliary focus, not worrying about sensitivity and inclusiveness.
Completely unacceptable! We live in 2022. I should not need to send my kids to schools with armed guards to learn a lesson. That's not progress. It's not the early 1800s. We need to make sure we are doing everything we can to keep dangerous military grade weapons out of the hands of people not vetted to own them. This is not hard at all. People who think owning a weapon makes them a man should not be able to decide this.

I'm no gun expert either and in this case I was referring to rifles designed to kill as many people as possible as quickly as possible. These rifles have select-fire capability which allows them to be switched from semi-automatic fire to modes of fully automatic fire. Also. installing a bump stock can significantly make any gun a machine gun.

It's really hard to suggest banning something if it cannot be specified in detail.

Vehicles and weapons are legal products that can both do a lot of killing in a short amount of time. The truck attack in France killed over 80 innocent lives. It's hypocritical to want to ban only one of those products when they are used for evil. You are trying to punish those that have done nothing wrong for the actions of a very small few.
Hardening schools from soft to hard targets is" completely unacceptable." Not many people agree with this totally naive perspective. No surprise. People who want guns will always be able to get them, but schools don't have to be open targets like this one was.

A teenager in Chicago or in rural Utah? Like I've said before on here, my dad bought my first rifle for me when I was 6 and it held 18 shots. Some consider it an assault weapon simply due to the capacity. Would someone be allowed to own that weapon in your scenario?
There is no difference until a person intent on doing harm decides to to use either one of those legal products to kill others. Ban guns and those that choose to kill will simply find another way to carry out their mayhem, which gives you a scenario like the 80+ that were killed in France.
What possible need would a six year old have for a rifle of that capacity? In my scenario, your Dad would be allowed to own such a weapon but certainly not a six year old.
