The economy has a lot to do with it. Utah has one of the lowest death rates per capita and also managed to keep their economy in the top 5. Sounds like they've done things better than most states. That 99.5% contains a wide variety of unpleasant and even near-fatal experiences including long-term hospital stays and lingering effects, even after mild infection. The vaccine is important to not only increasing chances for survival but also surviving well.

A wide variety but again, what percentage? Is Covid the only respiratory illness that has long term effects? How about the Flu? Pneumonia? Is it not true that the vast majority of unvaccinated will survive getting Covid just fine? I like my odds just fine.
