Good News Coming Soon at DT

Hearing that Miami is closing in on a commitment from a transfer DT that was a high blue-chip prospect (top 10 player at his position) coming out of high school. Could be an instant impact player for this defense that is looking to reinforce the defensive front. This player has multiple years of eligibility remaining as well.

Not releasing the name because the market on these transfer portal players changes as soon as the information leaks and these situations are sensitive. Will be big news for the Canes, though.

Inside Assessment On The Hurricanes

An inside source had this to say about the Hurricanes football team:

Freshman DL Collins Acheampong is not close to being ready for the season and may not play at all in 2023 due to injury.

Freshman Francis Mauigoa is one the best offensive lineman on the team already and competes with C Matt Lee and Javion Cohen for best overall O-Lineman.

DL Jayden Wayne is just average thus far.

OL Anez Cooper is the real deal and should have a big year.

DL Branson Deen once he returns from injury will be a monster and a contributor to the defensive line as an impact player.

DL Rueben Bain will be an impact player this season.

LBs Francisco Mauigoa and Wesley Bissainthe are clearly the best two linebackers in 2023 thus far.

LB Malik Bryant is extremely fast and did not play in the spring game because of a lingering injury from high school.

OL Cohen is naturally strong and is really good player and did not play in the spring game because of an ankle injury.

OL Okunlola not quite ready for the season but is up to 320 pounds.

Canes MBB: Transfer Portal Buzz

Miami should land its first transfer portal commitment sometime this week.

Florida State transfer guard Matthew Cleveland had a Zoom call with Miami on Monday. I heard that Cleveland initially reached out to UM himself, showing his interest in the program.

Cleveland averaged 13.8 points and 7.4 rebounds as a sophomore at FSU. An NBA-bound player in the next one/two years. Would be the ideal replacement for Jordan Miller.

Notre Dame transfer guard Cormac Ryan made multiple trips to Coral Gables last week. Averaged 12.5 points, 4.0 rebounds and 2.5 assists last season. Brings experience and shooting, along with a 6-foot-5 frame. He's clearly interested in Miami.

Could Van Dyke Transfer?

The Crimson Tide have supposedly been in contact with Miami’s Tyler Van Dyke but he has not expressed publicly that he has intentions to enter the transfer portal.

There are rumors that new Alabama offensive coordinator Tommy Reese has already been in contact with Van Dyke.

Towards the end of last season there were rumors swirling that he could potentially be on his way to Notre Dame with NIL playing a factor. Van Dyke regressed under offensive coordinator Josh Gattis last season but seems to be rejuvenated under new Miami offensive coordinator Shannon Dawson.

The move seems highly unlikely but not impossible since he had the itch to transfer just months ago.

According to sources, Miami booster, John Ruiz is supposed to meet with Van Dyke today to discuss his NIL deal to help persuade him to stay at the University of Miami.

This is a developing story.

Updated: After fielding offers Van Dyke has decided to stay with Miami.
