Cold weather will not do Cormani any good....

Especially during the season. This guy was born and raised in warm weather. That is what his body and muscles are used to. It takes extra care and due diligence when warming up and getting your body ready to play in higher elevations and coldness.

With that said....I think Deion is a good salesman. Unfortunately, it may take Colorado three to four years to put it all together....if ever.

Harbor

Miami is still making a concerted effort to land five-star Nyckoles Harbor within the past week. Oregon and Maryland seem to be the top contenders at this point. Oregon with its benefits in track and Maryland being close to home.

Where Miami may have missed is that they started the recruitment process recruiting him as a defensive end. Harbor based on his statements clearly wants to play wide receiver or tight end with his world-class track speed. Where Miami has the advantage would be NIL opportunities and the medical school. Miami has always been one of the top medical schools in the country and Harbor is looking to be an orthopedic surgeon.

Changes

As stated before sources say Cormani McClain to Miami is dependent upon DVD getting the defensive backs job. The day of McClain's signing Cormani and his mom wanted something in writing stating that DVD would be the DBs coach.

Since that does not seem to be happening, DVD is hoping to be a defensive backs coach somewhere.

James Coley is a name we are hearing that could potentially replace Frank Ponce as the quarterback's coach.

Also, South Florida Express will not be visiting Miami this weekend for elite prospect day. The premier seven-on-seven program will be participating in the Battle Miami tournament this weekend but will not visit the University of Miami like many other seven-on-seven programs.

Other seven-on-seven powerhouses, Defcon, Florida Fire and Raw are expected to visit Miami this weekend after competing.

Insider's Thread: Florida five-star 2023 CB Cormani McClain update

Talking to a source directly related to the Colorado staff, five-star 2023 CB Cormani McClain was on campus this weekend and CU now feels good with their chances of landing him. Speaking with McClain at the UA Next practices, his intent then was to sign with Miami as planned. An announcement was planned for today, I am not sure if that is still happening.

The Cormani Saga

Hearing it is not a done deal to Colorado or anywhere just yet.

Miami and Alabama are both still in play. Family loved DVD and want Cormani to play for him. He has always wanted to go Miami and that is his first choice.

Some people in his camp are recommending Alabama for the structure. They do not want to reach the NIL number to get him though.

Colorado and Miami are willing to pay. The original agreement was he was going to be making $350,000 p/year. The requested number is now $500,000 p/year, which Miami balked at. They then came back to the table and agreed to hit the number. Colorado is going step for step NIL wise with Miami. Alabama is offering just $150,000 with the opportunity to revisit things if he has success on the next level.

Bama coaches do feel very confident they are still in the game though. This is going to come down to the final signing period, regardless of what he announces before then.

Speculation on Gattis

According to a source, Josh Gattis has not been on campus since Thursday and that he has not been involved in recent evaluations of offensive skill players.

People around the program are expecting him to leave to Penn State as PSU WR coach Taylor Stubblefield was just relieved of his duties today. I am hearing there is likely a mutual parting of ways between Miami and Gattis and that the BIg Ten, whether that be Iowa (where he interviewed to the dismay of Mario Cristobal) to rejoin Michigan QB Cade McNamara or Penn State to take the WR coach position there.

Jake Garcia to Enter Transfer Portal

ESPN was first on the report and I spoke with someone in the program who confirmed the news. Tough loss, especially from a depth perspective. Would not be surprised to see Miami dip into the Portal for a veteran option to maybe compete and provide depth at QB. A lot of movement on the offense as of late. Ponce gone, Gattis rumored to be out the door. Hopefully things get shored up soon.

TJ Capers Update

Hearing that TJ Capers will come down to one of Miami, Louisville and Georgia. I am going with Louisville for my pick. Capers and family have a strong relationship with Director of Recruiting John 'Hova' Herron and despite them not having a linebacker coach, the South Florida vibe players are getting when they go to Louisville has been a huge selling point from kids in this area. We saw it with Will Fowles, Stanquan Clark and others. I also see teammate Daylen Russell, a three-star defensive lineman who had a really good year, ends up going to Louisville as well.

McClain

Reports surfaced Friday about the entire defensive staff going to visit five-star DB Miami commit Cormani McClain today at Lakeland High School and McClain was nowhere to be found.

Also, there are reports stating that McClain is to visit Colorado and Head Coach Deion Sanders.

A source told CanesCounty.com that there seems to be a disconnect to what Miami communicated to McClain about DeMarcus Van Dyke, defensive analyst, becoming the defensive backs coach, but that has yet to come to fruition.

"DVD" was instrumental in helping land McClain's commitment.

McClain stated in front of a national audience that he would be announcing his signing at the UA All-American Game on January 15th, information CanesCounty.com reported before his public announcement.

McClain is the only player from the 2023 class yet to sign with Miami. All signs are indicating that he will flip to Colorado just like "Coach Prime" did with flipping five-star DB/WR Travis Hunter from Florida State to Jackson State, but never count Miami and the Hurricanes out just yet. Hunter joined Sanders in Colorado weeks ago.

OC

Rumors are swirling around about offensive coordinator Josh Gattis interviewing at Iowa for the OC job.

From what we hear Cristobal obviously was not happy about it.

Do you believe the rumor? Could this be the end of Gattis' time a "The U?" Or does he deserve a shot to prove himself in 2023?

You be the judge.

Patrick Surtain Sr. To FSU

Patrick Surtain Sr., former South Florida powerhouse American Heritage Head Coach took the DB coaching job at FSU. This should be a concern for Miami in recruiting the position group.

DVD has done an excellent job in recruiting defensive backs, especially in this last cycle which included Damari Brown from American Heritage. The high school is a pipeline for talent overall and that should not slow down anytime soon with talents like running back Byron Louis and wide receiver Malachi Toney there.

Will be interesting to see how these recruiting battles play out.

DVD Vs. Surtain

Wide Receiver Help For Miami

Miami has a good chance to land wide receivers Damien Alford and Gary Bryant. After plenty of wide receivers falling off the board (D'onte Thornton, Isaac Teslaa) Miami is still in need of some wide receiver help.

Alford will be visiting Friday and the consensus is that this could be a done deal by the weekend. Alford is a big target originally from Canada but graduated from McArthur High School in South Florida. He had 34 receptions for 681 yards and four touchdowns in three years at Syracuse. Cristobal's former wide receivers coach Mike Johnson at Oregon was Alford's wide receivers coach at Syracuse.

Bryant had 51 receptions for 630 yards with seven touchdowns. He also has 24 kickoff returns for 623 yards (26 per return).
