BillBoard Music Awards....Shame on you

but he asked him to be on da Bad album, which Prince turned down by da way....go figure

Yes, Prince was supposed to be on the Bad album and in the "Bad" video opposite of Michael Jackson.

For those saying Jackson got help from Quincy Jones etc, sure he had someone produce his albums . But he wrote a lion share of the songs that were hits and not only that he composed the music as well to the best he could with out a formal musical training as he was out going platinum as a 10 year old.

He told all the musicians how and when to play the instruments on the songs he wrote. It was not all Q doing it for him, that is a myth.

Please watch the Michael Jackson Doc.on I think Shotime or HBO that Spike Lee just did, it's about his Off the Wall album in which he wrote half of when he was 19.

As for MJack not being relevant of late, OK but neither was Prince to any major degree. You still have to look at how much more popular Jackson was in both of there primes, I mean it's such a wide margin it's not even funny.

As for MJAck needing to be called the King of Pop, who else is going to wear the crown? Take a gander at his Wiki page and how many records he shattered and that are still around today.

I haven't even gone into the fact that he was the best dancer since James Brown either.

MJ a bad man...both are mention in da same breathe in da black community...kinda inseparable & comparable fame wise

You know it is slow time in Caneland when Papii is excited about Prince and Madonna rather than the latest 4 and 5 star.......haven't seen Papii do this burn for a long time....LOL....
No football in sight so have a little fun......LMFAO

I didn't rewrite anything......the figures are the facts and they speak for themselves. An article isn't history.....it is just some person's opinion.
its da industries opinion of da history of music an its artist....records sales is not da sole litmus test for greatness, but influence on ur craft as a whole is a better barometer

That article is also 6 years old.....6 years where Prince has had little success and albums largely flop.

Anyways, I don't want to argue with you anymore on this. I respect your opinion, more so on recruiting lol, and I will leave it at that they are both legends.

I already dropped da mic & left da room......(ps) those type of list only come out oh so often, but nice try doe...u can clap bac on next list

papii, by no means am I dissing Prince. I'm a huge fan and he is without doubt one of the greatest artists of all time.
Yes, it's true that Prince wrote songs for others. And I take you at your word that he wrote some for Madonna. But by and large Madonna wrote her own songs. She's a gifted songwriter.
They are both musical geniuses. So why quibble over who's better? Throw in Michael Jackson and The Beatles and right there you have the 4 greatest musical acts of the past 60 years.
Did you know Prince actually played over 30 instruments and proficiently. The guy was a prodigy. Madonna was / is a great artist but no where near what Prince was.

A lot of mic dropping going on........this is a wild thread.....LOL.....those damn mics are NOT shatterproof...LMFAO

Cash, yes, I am well aware that Prince played over a dozen instruments. But there is an objective way to measure one against the other.
Madonna is the #1 selling female artist of all time, selling more than 300 million CDs worldwide. More than Prince. She also won more Grammys, had more #1 hits and more top 10 hits than Prince.
She's also the highest grossing solo artist of all time with over $1.31 billion gross. Only the Rolling Stones and U2 have grossed more in concert tours.
I said in a previous post that both are musical geniuses. And I stand by that. And I love both their music.
But to say that Madonna doesn't even compare to Prince is just plain ridiculous and irresponsible given the facts I just presented. Celebs become more famous if they die young. From Jimi Hendrix to Janis Joplin to Jim Morrison to Elvis to Marylin Monroe, all these folks became more famous after dying before their time.

We will agree to disagree... It could also be argued Hendrix, Joplin, Morrison absolutely Elvis were more influential than Madonna too.

papii, Madonna won a Golden Globe for best actress for her role in the film Evita.
I just told you that Madonna wrote virtually all of her songs. And she produced most of her CDs. And more people saw her in concert than any solo artist in history. She influenced every female artist that came after her. And many male artists as well.
Both were innovators and visionaries in the music industry. Why can't you just accept the fact that both were terrific artists, among the best ever, and leave it at that?

Agree...I just saw it online. Very disappointing. They should have got his musical family to do a tribute. Maybe get Wendy and Lisa to do purple rain. This was just horribly disappointing and looked like zero thought was put into it.

Reading a lot of comments. One thing I have to say because this is purely a subjective thing based on our individual taste. Prince is a musicians musician. His first few albums he really separated himself in the business for a couple of reasons.

He literally wrote, produced, and played every single instrument on every album. You just didn't see that done at such a high level especially.

He actually was said to play over 20 instruments fluently.

Michael was more of an entertainer that falls into that category you could compare to Madonna. They are perfectionist at promoting their music and themselves. Although for my particular taste, while Madonna was wildly successful....I don't find her nearly as talented as either Prince or Michael. Yes, I have seen all three live. All three are excellent but Madonna just not on that level for me personally.

Sound better than da record LIVE!!!...I was in da house dat night...Rotterdam Netherlands

Yeah Papii...the one thing that I took from Prince when I went to see him live was he actually sounded better in the live performance which I found to be the case with very few people I have seen. I've seen him 3 times and this was the case every single time.

Nice...yeah. I don't think a lot of people realize honestly how talented this guy was. Gene pretty much says what musicians generally say about Prince in the business. He was a once in a lifetime guy. You just don't see artist in general that we saw in the 80's. These were people that didn't rely on all these over produced, and looped tracks. The main artist in bands you saw then played an instrument themselves most of the time but Prince was pretty much the high standard there.

Purple Rain may be the greatest blues song ever. And I love the blues!

Carlos Santana is a very skilled, underrated musician. Yep he has had problems, and had his gripes with others, but as a pure guitar mesmerizer, he is right up there..

Who is on Prince's level then?
Nobody!!!!its not even close prince the greatest of all time..most singers only do one or two things great..prince dose everything great hell the man plays over 20 instruments and plays them all well, he ant no slouch on any of them and he learned every one of them by ear,can sing in 4diffrent styles, and does all his own writing and producing,,and corg.the dance moves for the whole band, there is no entertainer that hitz the stage and dance his ass off ,sing all the songs and sing in four or five different voice, play all the instruments on the stage in the same damn night!! show me one i'll waite..anybody that's named on this post can't come close to prince rogers nelson,i been a big fan from day one 1977
