Flea is correct, the sleezy girlfriend totally set him up and egged him on, listen to the tape. Magic was in on it and should never have any part of that team.

That being said Sterling was a total idiot.

I have to wonder about this. First of all, hate what he said and think he is a total racist asshole piece of shit. But, that said, doesn't the 1st Amendment give him the right to be a total racist asshole piece of shit as long as he doesn't actually do damage to someone with his actions? I understand his comments hurt some feelings, no doubt, but has he actually refused to serve Blacks by not selling tickets or serving them at the concession stands? I don't know how to resolve this without stomping on the constitution and that is what bothers me.

It's not a freedom of speech issue. As I said, he voluntarily bought an NBA team and by doing so agreed to a certain code of conduct and it's enforcement thereof.

Well I have to agree with Flea that the guy was absolutely set up by his GF who I am sure will profit from this. I really did not hear all of the comments the guy said but I've heard a lot more racist comments than he made Ie; no "N" word mentioned.

It is obvious she led him into this conversation to get these thoughts and beliefs that she knew he had on tape.

There is rampant speculation that this is the "non offensive" tape and that there may be others that would make him sound way worse if that is even possible (ie the N word). Remember this woman is facing a 1.8 million dollar lawsuit from Sterling's ex wife. She releases this to the media and tells them privately, "drop the suit or things are about to get a lot worse". Suit and tapes go away, advantage mistress.

Maybe you are tired of hearing about racism because you probably have never been subjected to it,assuming you are white. Believe me, we are tired of hearing about it also and I'm black.

Got no real problem with the punishment but this does speak volumes of how pathetic society is. We have an African American President who has been called some of the worse names and undermined the day he set foot in the white house (but we kept hearing that we don't need to have a discussion in this nation about race)...we had a black kid shot with his hood up and skittles (but we don't need to talk about race)...we had the kid shot because of his music (while guilty did not result in real discussion on the race issue)...65% of nonviolent life w/o parole inmates are African Americans (but we don't need to talk about race) But in this case rich African Americans like Magic and MJ are offended by comments and it stimulates this large dialogue about racism and this guy gets banned for comments he made (while offensive, ignorant and disgusting) they were comments. Again I have no problem with the punishment and actually applaud the NBA for taking this stance but state laws discriminating against African Americans and our insanely prejudicial drug laws that cripple impoverished African American communities should allow this country to have a real discussion about race in the 21 century not some dude getting his conversation recorded.

The guy said he didn't want black people to go to his games. I know the girl egged him on, but if you listen, it did not seem like a position that he just came up with during the 9+ minutes of the tape. This is not a Jimmy the Greek comment. This is not "playing the race card" or over-sensitivity. This guy owns an NBA basketball team comprised primarily of black people, and he went on a rant about how he doesn't want black people at his games. You can't be serious here.

The troubling thing here is that this came up because his friends, etc. were making it a specific point of criticizing or somehow giving him a hard time about his girlfriend bringing black people to the game or her posing with Magic Johnson on her instagram. Who knows who those people were.

Btw, I am white.
.
Well, technically he said he didn't want her bringing black people to his games, not that he didn't want black people at his games in general. Either way, he is a racist POS.

I'm all for him getting punished the way that he did because 99% of people would agree that racism is wrong. He can believe whatever he wants but in a business like the NBA, somebody with those views can not be allowed to own a team and hurt the brand.

However, this does bring up some slippery slope arguments. As somebody said earlier, what if a very religious owner is against gay marriage? Is that grounds to lose your team? Or, let's say one goes on a rant against the President (Obama or anybody else), is that grounds?

But, in this situation the NBA got it 100% right.

Kids today really don't see black or white or whatever and that's a very good thing. I grew up in northern Illinois in the 50's and worked at a sandwich shop - they would not serve people of color (any color) at the counter. I never could understand that. Imagine, the land of Lincoln, racists. We've come a long way.

I understand what you are saying, but my understanding of the incident is that he was taped, without his knowledge, in private with only his girlfriend present. I'd think a code of conduct would have to be pretty specific and possibly not enforceable if it tries to limit what he can say in the privacy of his own home in a private conversation. Again, I think he is a worthless piece of shit for what he has said, but I do wonder about hammering someone for something they said under those circumstances.

So much for freedom of speech………Taped in his own home, pays players outrageous salaries, why don't they quit? Because the only color they like is Green$……what about all the racist rappers intentionally record it and get a pass….Barkley saying it's a black league is racist as well……You want racism look at obamacare, 71% of doctors are white men, and they have been personally destroyed by this administration.

I think its time to stop hyphenating and dividing our citizens The majority of Americans are not racist and blacks have made great strides in the last 20 years. Obama is a divider not a uniter .Most conservatives oppose him not because he is black but because his socialist policies are ruining this country.
The Democrats until recently were the party of segregation until they found out they could get votes by race hustling. Their social policies have destroyed the nuclear black family. Ben Carson -a brilliant black neurosurgeon has a chance to be the republican candidate for president. He represents the future -a stronger America in which minorities stop being enslaved by welfare and begin to value academic achievement and contribute to economic progress rather than stifle it.

Sabrose I was not trying to politicize the issue I was saying that some of the remarks and incidents in the last eight years should have at least led to a more dynamic and transparent discussion of race in this nation. With that being, said I have to wonder where you took your basic eighth grade US history course...Obama has given us "Obamacare" a thing socialists laugh at as an attempt to oligopolize the health industry; the furthest left he could be considered is a Keynesian and even that is a stretch (Huey Long was a socialist not Obama). As for the Democrats being the party of segregation (while true) neither party really opposed Segregation until the turn of the century (except of course those evil socialists like Eugene Debs in 1901). The issue was heightened by the Dixiecrats after WW2 when the demise of segregation was inevitable. The deep south voted democratic (as usual) in the 1956 election but was a little more weary of Kennedy and split a few votes in 1960. It was after the signature of the 1964 Civil Rights Act that Johnson (a democrat mind you) talked about losing the south for a generation. Sure enough if you look at the 1964 election the dixie states voted against Johnson and for Goldwater in spite of the CRA. It is after this election that the Republicans (who were near extinction) put forth what is known as the "Southern Strategy" (you should look into it) which forever changed to political landscape. To simplify the issue of segregation and in broader terms politicized racism is not really consistent with any party but more so the two party's desires to appeal to a specific region at different times in history.

All is well, Flea and I hope all is well with you and Mrs. Flea and the little Fleas (lol)! We took a stand and rightfully so Sterling got what he deserved ... if anything he paid for his past "doings". It just feels like a mockery when I hear (for example) rappers taking a stand against this loser. Why don't they take a stand against lyrics derogatory against women? Why doesn't Jesse rally in Southside Chicago? We got rid of one racist SOB, but now let's turn our attention to more important things in our community! If dude didn't want his half black mistress hanging around brothers (in public) ... WHO CARES!? When Magic becomes the owner of the Clippers in a year ... hmmm!

Three quick points:

1) Sterling's a douche
2) whoever set him up is a douche
3) the punishment is ridiculous - dude owns the team. No freedoms anymore; not even to be a d-bag.

I'll just say this. There are a lot of people that need to learn the definition of and difference between racism and discrimination.

Re: Donald Sterling just received LIFETIME BAN from NBA and 2.5 milli

Cleveland he still has the freedom to be a douchebag. No one took that from him. The NBA exercised its freedom of association or, freedom to not associate with someone. If the NBA does not want him to be a part of its league, then Sterling has no right to be a part of it.

What was said was bad and hard to hear.
But, this is going to get a little confusing and dangerous on who is the "keeper" of the rules other than the 1st amendment. Listen, EVERYONE condemned his statements, but one entity filed judgment. Are we all ready for that with every word that comes out of each of our mouths at anytime, anyday??

Joetoth, I agree with your premise but I think the issue in this instance is that Sterling has a history...Riley Cooper made an equally ignorant comment last year and was some what forgiven perhaps because there was not much history with him acting and speaking in such a manner. Additionally and unfortunately, we should be ready to be judged on our every word and anyone who thinks that privacy exists in any manner should get their heads out of the clouds.

Well let's just hope he doesn't exercise that freedom... ever.

I understand the NBA wants to look like they are against racism and I'm sure they are. However, don't kid yourselves. The only reason the NBA is doling out this level of punishment is because Silver is new, he's probably getting pressure from outside sources and he wants to look good in front of the media. Sterling is easy prey... and a douche.

Sorry to say - but Flea has it right on this one. Various outlets are saying that Magic Johnson is emerging as the favorite to buy the Clippers. As always, jus follow the money.

I sware, March madness gets better every year at the nba demise. My friend said, hell if you were paying me to play a game what this a-hole was his players I'd be ok with him resenting me. I said, repectfuly, I get that, but how do you produce for a person that wishes you didn't exist. We're not talking about some PC comment that was overblown and taken the wrong way, this guy has serious issues with a lot of the people running his organization. He said, not saying I'd produce but fuc$ it, it's a muti million dollar pay day. WEar the jesey, show up and then Traid my a$$. This friend is an affluent nba agent a few years out of the game but still.

Side note, time all of you realize that this guy is a known a-hole and that rasicm and bitterniss and just point out being a shmuck go all together hand in hand. Living in alabama for five yeArs I learned that rasicm isn't as personal as black people think. If your a rasict fuc$ you probably hate everyone including your self and not just black people. Rasicm= pissed off at the world. Yes billionares can be pissed off at the world too.
right or wrong through out this situation, you reap what you sow and it's hard to give the benefit of the doubt to guy that's screwed any one he's come in contact with. Just saying there's not a lot of nice hateful people out there so for all the people out there that were hurt by this they shouldn't.

It always interesting to see how white folks will defend white supremacy and racism, not unexpected but interesting nevertheless. Case in point, this Klansman above chooses to focus on the "victimization" of the poor white man who's always getting accused of racism vs the fact that old bast*rd is a racist and deserved exactly what he got. Then he attempts to project the psychosis of racism, a sick drama that was written, produced, and has been starred in by white folks onto black folks by assuming that black folks privately have these same conversations. He attempts to bolster his defense of white supremacy by using one of the common defense mechanisms of asking the unrealistic question of "what if the roles were reversed?"Lol. How about you give an example, Mr. Klansman, oh excuse me Mr. Klanlove, of any incident you can find of a black business owner, celebrity, athlete, etc. having such a conversation about white folks. If we are going to play make believe every time the curtain of racism is pulled back and attempt to redefine its definition or pretend you as a white male have some clue as to how racism effect black folks, then any conversation on the issue is fruitless. We can play the "make believe" game with any subject and turn it into a philosophical debate. Fact of racism, however, is that black people have never historically been racist nor are we racist now. Black racism or reverse racism is pure myth and defense mechanism of white supremacy and racism. Black people do not focus on skin color as a point of feeling we are supreme to anyone else, we've never killed or hung white people based on this psychosis, we've never socially, politically, economically, or educationally oppressed any white people based on it nor do we control the government and resources to effect the lives of white folks via racism. I assure you that black folks or specifically Magic J., as you assume in your make believe scenario, does not have these types of convo with other black celebrities. So Klanlove, as much as you attempt to mask your racist ideology by prefacing you comment with how you how you don't condone racism, the other 90% of your comment defending his right to be racist tells the true story of who you are and how you think…Btw, I welcome any examples of the black racism or black racist rants from celebrities you can find, I'd love to see them. While you visiting the land of make believe, why don't you bring back a unicorn and a couple of mermaids, always wanted to see if they really exist too. Lol. Gotta laugh at racist, totally illogical and irrational thinking…..

Thank You...This is on Point.

It's funny to me that people think that Black folks sit around thinking about how to hurt white folks. We don't really care about any of that stuff.

Give us equal pay and equal opportunities and we'll be straight.

I just laugh at people who makes racist comments, but if you put your hands on me then we going on another level.

The problem with your premise is that you assume in order for black folk to be having the same racist private conversations they have to be talking about white folks. Why don't you go to L.A. and ask black folk how they feel about Mexicans and more so Koreans and then see if they are having the same racist conversations.

Since you want examples of black celebrities racist comments, here are 2 quick ones from Spike Lee, who works for the NBA by the way and isn't being banned. "I seriously wanted to pick up a gun and shoot whites. The only way to resolve matters is by bloodshed." "I give interracial couples a look. Daggers. They get uncomfortable when they see me on the street."

We have become an apologist society, its a stigma that only whites are racist making comments, never anyone else. I have nothing against anyone, but this crap has got to stop, Im tired of hearing about racism and its double standard. Call a spade a spade. Not saying he shouldn't get fined for making comments but to be so ignorant to think these other guys calling him out haven't made racist comments in their days is just ignorant...end rant
Yeah sure. That makes it okay to be a racist loser. Everyone else is doing it....lmao

The problem with your response is that you disregard the racism black folks have received from both Mexicans and Koreans, and you attempt to use the reaction of Black folks to their racism to prove your point. Black people have allowed Hispanics and every other group into our neighborhoods historically especially Hispanics without any problem. It's always the incoming group who brings that racist sh*t with them. Both groups of people have internalized white supremacy and are racist against black people, a fact! Seen, heard, read about it, experienced it, I live in Az where some of the Mexicans are very racist. I know all about the situation in Cali with Mexicans and Blacks there, Mexicans are actually terrorizing black folks out there and attacking them, and you dare cite that as an example of Black folks being racist? Koreans have also been very racist towards black folks and you dare categorize the reaction to their racism as black racism? Foh with that! Ridiculous at best! Please point out to me how Spike Lee's comment is racist? Break this down to me because I'm interested in understanding this new definition of racism you apparently have.

Fa'sho Jersey, I say fck anybody who thinks like that. It never fails, though, some of these clowns attempt to project this psychosis of everyone when they get busted. They come with the patented "its not just us everybody does it" excuse. I think they believe this somehow makes it ok to racist. What's a damn shame is the many of them quickly come to the defense of white supremacy instead of speaking against it. The most blatantly racist sh*t happens and white folks are literally defending this bs, not just here but on national radio, local radio, and everywhere. It really is a sickness. I've heard excuses from his age and the era he grew up in, freedom of speech, violation of privacy, to the attempts at redefining racism. Talk radio guy here says he does not believe it was racism, he just think Sterling has a slave master mentality, HUH??? WTF!!! You gotta shake your head at the insanity but nevertheless, anytime white supremacy is threaten, white folks come out of the wood works to defend it no matter what the morally correct position proves to be. Many of them defended Zimmerman and white corps even financed this bast*rd's defense, a murderer no doubt. But in order to defend white supremacy, they'll stand on the side of wrong as you see many of them doing in their light weight defense of this Sterling clown. "They'll acknowledge he's a creep but they still defend his right to be a racist and they believe this thought process is reasonable and actually this thought process makes sense. Discrimination is ok with them, what the hell, the sh*t never affects them so no sweat of their backs.

I'm not sure but I think people have this need to side with their race instead of looking at every situation on its on merit. If this dude was Black and he told his lady don't publicize being friends with white people...or don't take pictures with white people. I don't associate with any black person that would try to defend that. There is absolutely no need.
