Politco is mostly a liberal rag, But the occasionally do some very good work on DC related stuff. The article's conclusion is true, John Roberts as Chief Justice has lost control of the Supreme Court. The article correctly states how both Conservative and Liberal justices ignored his attempts to forge a compromise on the Roe case. That is unfortunate because some form of compromise is needed. But, IMO the article does not accurately state the reason's why he lost control.

He began to lose the consertatives during the Obama administration when he allowed Obama to excoriate the Court during the SUTO address. But when Alito's draft was leaked, Roberts lost the court forever. That is his job, to protect the process. He failed miserably. From a technology security standpoint it would be very easy to track every movement of the document in all forms. This is the Supreme Court not grandma's cookie recipe. Then he sits by while his judges have protestors at their doorstep. Yes, Roberts has lost the judges trust.

Have heard more than one suggest that Robert was the source of the leak.

Never liked Roberts. A stupid grin always on his face. Completely blew the swearing in of one of the recent Justices (I forgot who, but he read the words wrong even with an open book in front of him). Weak. A pacifier at heart. Not what we need at this point. We can compromise once we take back the country. Not before. That begins in Nov. This madness has to (and will) stop.

This Court flipped when McConnell reduced the process of selecting SCOTUS justices from any illusion of nonpolitics to pure political theater.

When he stated that they could not so much as interview Merrick Garland 8 months prior to an election it made little to no sense. But at least he made the argument that the American people might pick a new president in a few months and that they might select a President who made a different choice.

When he forced through a ACB he forfeited all intellectual honesty of his prior position as the election had literally started, votes actually cast, and he proceeded to give her the audience of what would soon be a lame duck Senate and President.

Roberts lost the Court that day, when the Court became a tool of a political party in a way that was transparent beyond repair.

Whatever you think of the Court, the integrity of the selection of the Court, first eroded by Dem filibuster destruction, was completely ruined by the machinations of the GOP leader who stated he would do as much with a chuckle.

Everything else is noise.
