triggered many of you into unconsciousness. I think what I should have mentioned but did not is that I DON'T CARE IF THEY FIRE MANNY at the end of the day. I am not a "Manny fan"
at this time. I am however a Manny OBSERVER - I don't know him personally either.
Would I think it would be the right move for us now - NOT SURE. You cannot deny the fact he is responsible for bringing Lashlee here who has gotten TVD to ROY in the ACC as of today.
As we all know - the QB position is the most important piece of your team puzzle. The rest of your team's play will be predicated on the QB position and points the offense can put up. For example - a high scoring offense can help out a defense (for example) that may have flaws. To a certain extent of course.
When you're trying to win games and become "relevant" again - you need to have consistency with the players you recruit and the time they give to your program along with the quality of coaches you hire to your staff and the time they spend on your staff as well. When you have constant turnover with players and coaches it is not conducive to building a winning team in my opinion.
Jimmy Johnson was the CEO of his team back in the 80's. He was not a position coach. I think I read somewhere yesterday that today's college coach needs to be that "guy" as well.
Can Manny be "that guy"?
Here are some questions that I would consider if I were the new AD coming in:
Does Manny have the mental capacity and "smarts" to be a head coach?
I don't think there is a question first and foremost about Manny's intelligence. He is a pretty smart guy, I think. Did Blake pull the trigger too fast on him - perhaps. Does he seem unintelligible to most of you? I think the answer to that is no. Is he perhaps "learning on the fly? Yes!! But at this point he is already 3 years into it - I think he gets "most of it by now".
Has Manny from an employee perspective of UM done anything that would cause an issue, embarrassment, arrest or otherwise bring on liability to the school?
I think that's an astounding no. He is a pretty good rep actually and pretty conscious of social issues that may affect the program/players. He is "in tune" with his players in my opinion.
Has Manny, in the past, been restricted to the money he could allocate towards the hiring of top-notch coaches and/or upgrades to the facilities for recruiting?
We all know that is a YES. Just a few days ago they said they would up the ante to over $20M for the football program. About time, right?
Has the program suffered due to attrition of players leaving early to the NFL?
Oh my GOD....talk about public enemy number 1. Let's be real - if this team was able to retain the services of one Greg Rousseau last year DO YOU NOT think that is worth at least one win? Maybe 2? Perhaps the FSU QB takes a sack on the 4th and 14. And that's just 1 player. How many players have we lost early to the draft that could have helped us win games? Yet the head coach who recruited this player(s) with the school's time, money and resources is WASTED and ridiculed when the level of play drops off. Have most of you not complained about the defense this year? Wonder why?
Has Manny adapted to today's game? Is he fully using available tools/options to improve the team?
You would have to say YES to this one as well. Unlike previous coaching staffs who refused to fire coaches, Manny has made changes where necessary. Biggest improvement obviously at the OC position hence the upcoming of TVD this year. The transfer portal has been used pretty effectively since Manny's tenure to improve wins.

Has Manny been willing to make drastic changes when needed?
Of course, he had to do that this year with basically switching out a ton of upperclassman starters to freshman due to the lack of productivity/play on the field...in particular on defense. Did you all not think there would be a small price to pay for that change by a few lost games? C'mon.
Did the team ever quit on him during the season?
You would have to say no considering the last 6 games
Is this team trending up or down at seasons end?
You would have to say "up"
Is this team in a position where it NEEDS to fire its head coach and absorb an enormous amount of buyout clauses for coaches going to and from the program?
At this time NO.
So.....you can be two things as a fan. An emotional wreck (like most of you). Or practical in your thinking about how we move forward. We CANNOT build CONSISTENCY as a program switching out coaches every 3 years.
WILL NEVER WORK.....
As a Hurricane fan and if Manny stays - I want him to work the transfer portal like his life depends on it NOW. I TRULY think that's where we can find some missing pieces to get to the next level with what we currently have in place.
With that said, I truly feel Mario will be the head coach here one day - and rightly so. The question is when that right time will be and when those triggers are pulled.
