Recruiting Notebook: Several recruits visit Miami on Saturday

Several prospects visited Miami from near and far on Tuesday. Here's a rundown of the players that entered in and out of the facility.

DJ Pickett spent three days in Miami, touring the facility and getting acquainted with new DB coach Chevis Jackson. Miami seems like they will definitely be in this race to the very end. The fact that Booker Pickett is a signee and was with him while he was on campus is certainly a positive sign. LSU seems like the other team to watch the most here, but Miami is in a great spot.

Talented offensive lineman Cortez Smith continues to be impressed with Miami. This seems like a Georgia/Miami battle. Georgia may have the edge with proximity. Miami seems to check every other box for him.

Miami still prioritizes Byron Louis, but the local back will continue to experience the recruiting process fully. The issue here is that Miami is also looking at other running backs and is looking to confirm which back will indeed be the back to pair with Girard Pringle. Miami is looking to confirm that spot sooner rather than later.

Iose Epenesa, who has an official visit set with Miami, said he doesn't know if Miami checked any boxes for him during the visit. He is still very open with his process, but the possibility of being coached by Jason Taylor could be a factor down the line. He will likely make a commitment in the latter part of the football season with Missouri, Illinois, Oregon, Michigan, Iowa, and Texas all in the mix.

Jaden Wilkerson is an impressive-looking, under-the-radar prospect who said the recruitment from Miami is heavy, and Cristobal is expressing that they want him. Miami, Syracuse, and UCF are the unofficial top three for Wilkerson. Maryland will also get an unofficial visit.

Justin Hill likes the small campus feel of Miami and said the communication is constant. and called Jason Taylor the GOAT when it comes to the edge position. He called Miami "genuine" in their recruiting approach. Ohio State, USC, Oregon, Alabama, Penn State, and Miami are the schools recruiting Hill at a high level.

Five-star safety DJ Pickett to visit Miami

DJ Pickett is expected to visit Miami this weekend. Rivals has ranked him the top athlete in the 2025 class.

This a golden opportunity for Miami to re-connect with Pickett after the departure of former DBs Jahmile Addae.

Chevis Jackson has done well in establishing relationships with current Miami targets Chris Ewald and Amari Wallace and making a good impression with Pickett this weekend is high priority.

LSU, Oregon, Georgia, and Clemson are the contenders for Pickett

Recruiting Notebook: Miami impresses many prospects Saturday (3/23/24)

Miami did well landing three-star running back Girard Pringle, with whom Matt Merritt had long been establishing a relationship while at USF. Officially, it's Merritt's first commitment, so it will be interesting to see how he translates to the college game.

Miami made a big impression on Brock Schott, and as a result of the visit, Miami is one of his top schools.

Miami remains in a solid place with Ben Hanks but Georgia sounded like it will be a major player here. His other top schools: UF, FSU, Lousiville and UCF all seem to have legitimate shots.

Miami remains in a great place for CJ Ewald. Hard to see him committing anywhere else at this point.

Miami made it clear that Jaelyne Matthews is the top offensive lineman on its board. Physically, he looked the part as his legs looked like giant sequoia trees. I think Miami can seal the deal here after his official visit to Miami, but Georgia and Tennessee will have a big say in where he chooses to go.

Hayden Lowe absolutely raved about Miami, but USC is likely the team to watch here for the California native if it's not Miami.

Miami will be in it until the very end for Jaime Ffrench, but his face lit up when he mentioned Ohio State. Texas could also be a player, but this recruitment may be the most fascinating to watch.

Luka Gilbert visited Miami as well but kept his answers to questions very close to the vest. It was tough to get a read on him. He would not reveal the schools that are recruiting him the hardest. He said the visit to Miami was "awesome." Gilbert did confirm an official visit for June 7th.

Clemons was really impressed by the culture and called Miami 'home.' Penn State is the other school recruiting Clemson at a high level.

Impressive running back Joseph Troupe visited Miami. RB coach Merritt had a relationship with Troupe during his time at USF. It was Troupe's second visit. Georgia Tech, USF, Cincinnati, and West Virginia are in the mix.

Dallas Wilson visited on Saturday but was not available. He did not walk out of the facilities, but CanesCounty.com learned that Coaches continued to meet with Wilson through late evening. Sources tell me that Wilson is near the top of the wide receiver board, if not at the very top.

Local Four-Star CJ Ewald makes another visit to Miami Saturday

The local defensive back CJ Ewald made another visit to Coral Gables Saturday for practice No. 6.

Ewald did not visit LSU as planned, but did visit Louisville.

Ewald enjoyed the intensity of practice he saw, and his relationship with Miami defensive back Chevis Jackson continues to build.

Georgia, Penn State, and Louisville are the other schools in the process of confirming official visits for Ewald. Ewald has an official visit with Miami set for June 16th.

The blue-chip DB hopes to commit by week one of the football season.

Ewald plays with Defcon seven-on-seven and should participate in another tournament in Tampa next weekend.
