Hello, Caniacs:
The post-season is here and your No. 4 seed Hurricanes play their first game of the ACC Tournament in Charlotte Thursday at 11 am against Duke.
Here's the only stat U need to know from Wednesday: No. 9 Duke 12, No. 5 FSU 1
The Blue Devils pounded out 13 hits, including a grand slam in the top of the first, to roll the Noles by 11. Who saw that score coming? It was the first time in the 98-game series between the schools that Duke had beaten the Noles by 10+ runs.
U think we're hot going 8-2 in our last 10 games? Duke has won 9 straight (longest streak in the ACC this season) and anyone here who thinks this game is going to be a gimme because we swept them in April (scores: 3-1, 11-5 & 7-1) think again.
But, keep this in mind: Before the winning streak, Duke lost 2 of 3...at Louisville. Just saying.
Don't kid yourself. The Dookies will be a tough out and the home crowd in North Carolina will be on their side (Durham is 2 hours away).
BTW, just to show U how whacked out this tournament has been so far, one day after 11th seed Clemson was mauled by 7th seed (I think) Louisville 15-10 (the Cards his 7 HRs), the Tigers bounced back Wednesday night to whip 2nd seed Georgia Tech 11-5 that included an inside-the-park HR by Clemson.
Notice a trend here where favored teams are losing?

Coach G talked about the advantage of being the highest seed in a pool format:
“You get to see the other teams play first,” head coach Gino DiMare said. “We know we’re playing Duke, so it will dictate some things of how we use our staff in terms of who starts. But we need to win games. You need to win games. We’re not going to go into any game and just save guys. That’s not the case at all because we need to win games. We’d like to win this tournament, but the most important game right now is Duke.” (Courtesy: UM)
