Just cuz I could, I read today the House‘s 80 page legal memorandum in support of Trump’s impeachment. I also read the Trump 14 page response. Both were submitted to the Senate yesterday. See npr.org if want to read them.

Confession: I’m a never Trumper. I didn’t read these docs to form an opinion (I want Trump convicted) but to evaluate the legal skills of the two opposing teams of lawyers. To date, I have been astounded at the atrocious legal work of the Trump lawyers, principally Rudy and Sidney Powell. Court after court has thrown them out on their ear.

Evaluation: The House memorandum is a model of reason and clarity. It set out a clear narrative of Trump’s objection to a “rigged election” from his pre-election rants of August 2020 to his last statements as he flew off to Mar-a-Lago. Ex. It’s gonna be rigged, they’re rigging it, it was rigged, file the lawsuits, pressure and threaten state election officials, pressure Mike Pence and ultimately incite violence. The memo then addresses whether the Senate can convict a President who is no longer in office. Many references to prior impeachments and to the intent of the Framers of the Constitution. Scholarly and persuasive.

The Trump response is professional arguing that: the Senate has no jurisdiction over a former President; Trump has the right of free speech; his behavior did not incite violence.

I don’t expect any citizen who reads these docs will change their mind about convicting Trump. But, I am stunned by the legal quality of the House memo drafted so quickly after the recent vote to impeach. In plain language, it makes the case to convict Trump.

Prediction: Trump will not be convicted. 17 Republicans will not say that he is guilty.

Agreed. He won't be convicted, but all the R's dirty laundry will be dragged out during the trial; specifically all the worst of the worst of the insurrectionists testifying about how Trump inspired them to storm the Capitol. This will cause Republicans to publicly disavow Trump and his tactics, as well as the nutjob brigade like Taylor-Greene, Boebert and the like.

Since we're ridding DC of nut-job's can we sweep out The Squad, especially Alexandria (Ted Cruz tried to kill me) Ocasio-Cortez and the queen of all inciters, Maxine Waters?

Problem is there is a ton of evidence the violent acts were staged and required prior planning. Secondly if you actually watched Trumps speech he states nothing about being violent. As a matter of fact he actually stated to “go peacefully”. It’s just another political ruse and I don’t necessarily blame the democrats solely for this. The true “Never Trumpers” were behind this mostly. Guys like Mitch McConnell, another career politician.

What exactly is wrong with Boebert? She’s been targeted ever since she made a fuss about carrying her gun. Ain’t nothing wrong with her being armed.

There's enough in here to censure her, especially the part about her live tweeting Pelosi's location to the insurrectionists.

Not a fan of Greene but not a fan of Omar and Talib. I think all three should be off committees.
